How exactly do you level up in Steelrising?

You start the game at Level 5, but where do you go from there? Anima Essence is the key.

Steelrising has a similar leveling-up system to any souls-like game. If you want to get stronger you need to amass a haul of Anima Essence, Steelrising’s equivalent of souls or similar leveling up currency found in other souls-like games.

You gain Anima Essence by defeating enemies, looting corpses and chests, defeating bosses, and more. To level up, all you need to do is visit the upgrade menu at any Vestal or Horseless Carriage.

There you can spend your essence and put points into one of four attributes:

  • Power
  • Durability
  • Agility
  • Engineering
  • Vigour
  • Elemental Alchemy

Every attribute gives different bonuses.

Best Attributes to Put Points Into in Steelrising

Power

Power increases your damage with Power Affinity weapons and increases your Impact. The latter is responsible for the time enemies will be staggered. The best attribute for a heavy-hitting class like a Bodyguard or a Soldier. Great if you like a slower playstyle.

Durability

This attribute is responsible for your overall health (red bar). It also increases your Balance which helps you not get knocked down when hit by a heavy attack.

If you are building a tank with more survivability, that does more DPS than burst damage, then put some points into Durability for sure.

Agility – Level Up in Steelrising

Agility is responsible for the damage of your weapons that scale with Agility Affinity. It also increases your immobilization, which is the stagger meter of your enemy (the reticule on a locked target).

Agility is the best stat to max out when playing an agile, fast-paced Dancer. It allows you to chain combos with a lot of mobility.

Engineering

Engineering is the most utility-related statistic and the least useful in most situations. It increases your Armor, Affliction, and Loot Multipliers. It has some synergy with Elemental Alchemy and builds that rely on elemental damage.

Vigour – Level Up in Steelrising

Vigour is responsible for your overall Endurance as well as Critical Hit Multiplier. It pairs really well with Agility, because Critical Hits can be executed on enemies when their stance meter is broken and they’re immobilized.

Elemental Alchemy

Elemental Alchemy increases your Alchemical Affinity weapons, as well as your elemental resistances to Ignition, Frost, and Electrocution. If you play as an alchemist, it’s your most important attribute. It allows you to manage the battlefield with three elements and survive yourself.
