In this guide, we’ll be revealing the MultiVersus tier list – showcasing the best characters in the game for Season One currently since the launch of the open beta on July 26, 2022. Season One is also launching August 15, 2021 so we have a refreshed tier list for you!

With MultiVersus now playable to all, players are eager to start using their favorite characters and fight amongst others.

We’ve compiled our pick of the best characters below. Those who want to play competitively will want the strongest characters to maximize their potential to win and play closest to the meta.

We’ll be dividing the characters into tiers (S, A & B). There are a total of 16 characters in the game with four being available only and the rest need to be unlocked through continued play.

Who is the best character in Multiversus?

That all depends but the Reddit community seems to think that Taz is pretty special. His spin was causing havoc, but it’s now been slightly nerfed – so the devil is less OP. Still, we think he still just about hangs on to S tier status.

The developers write: “If you have been following early access, Taz’s Tornado has been dominating his character kit and presenting a non-obvious knowledge check for newer players. By reducing its effectiveness we hope to improve his gameplay health and loop and bring the game to a healthier state for newer players.”

Here’s a more detailed look:

  • A decrease in the tornado’s duration and the additional duration gained by passing an ally.
  • Removing one of the multi-hits of the tornado.
  • Decreasing the hit pause of all the hits in the tornado.
  • Reduced knockback from the final hit in the tornado from 1375 to 1275.

Elsewhere, Bugs Bunny and Harley Quinn are pretty special too – the latter probably just edging it into S tier.

So without further ado, here is our MultiVersus Tier List!

TierMultiVersus Characters (as of August 2022)
S (Tier 1)Harley Quinn, Tom and Jerry, Finn, Bugs Bunny & Black Adam
A (Tier 2)Reindog, Batman, Velma, Superman, LeBron James, Shaggy, Rick, Taz & Stripe
B (Tier 3) Jake, Steven Universe, Garnet, Wonder Woman, Iron Giant, Arya Stark, Morty

S-tier (Tier 1)

The best of the best. For players who want to win and win now, these characters are a must-try:

  • Harley Quinn: (Special Moves: Stuffie Bat, Batter Up!) An assassin archetype character. Harley is built for landing hard-hitting blows and surprise attacks, her debuff can set people on fire and is built for brawling. If she can inflict her confetti status it also knocks back and ignites them, this further damages them! However, be careful are assassins are naturally fragile classes – taking up to 14% more damage than other classes. However, if you can stay out of trouble Harley is one of the strongest in the arena right now.

harley
The Queen of Arkham Asylum is one of MultiVersus best characters
  • Tom & Jerry (Special moves: Slingshot Sharpshooter / Rocket Mouse). Two for the price of one! The two characters excel in ranged moves and are considered high-skill characters due to their versatility. They fight with a ‘madcap’ style and show tons of durability. Tom and Jerry currently are the strongest in 2v2 situations as Tom can throw Jerry to allies for speed buffs and can become completely unpredictable in a team’s scenario as you’re essentially playing against three, not two!
tom
  • Finn The Human (Special moves: High Five, Dude! / Backpack ‘Em Up!) Finn is a character you can always count on. Similar to Harley Quinn, he is an assassin archetype character. However, be careful as he is not the toughest character to endure. His passive can help boost his special attacks and used the right way, he can be lethal in crucial moments. Hitboxes change depending on the number of coins you have, however it can make Finn almost invulnerable at times. Until an update addresses his hitboxes, Finn will remain dominant for some time!

Finn the Human may have his weaknesses but he’s still effective in MultiVersus
  • Bugs Bunny (Special moves: A Safe Investment / Special Delive-Rocket) Bugs Bunny provides an element of surprise thanks to his special ‘Delive-Rocket’ move. Through the Bunny Burrow move, Bugs also has the great counter-attacking capability and is able to dodge enemy moves well. Bugs’ ability to annoy enemies with constant projectiles makes him very effective in 2v2s where movement is crucial. Bugs Bunny can exploit a bad position very easily so his potential cannot be ignored in this tier. There is no surprise when we know since the open beta, Bugs Bunny is one of the most played characters in the game!
  • While it’s noted that Bugs Bunny is receiving a nerf following EVO, it is still expected that Bugs will have enough ample power to stay in this tier until further notice. Pro player will heavily influence where Bugs positions going forward!

Bugs is one of the best
  • Black Adam (Moves TBC): We’re predicting that Black Adam will be an S-tier character in MultiVersus. With a plethora of skills in his arsenal we can’t imagine currently what he would be like but we’re predicting that he’ll be classed as a tank and there aren’t many tanks in the game, if hes a touch of ranged in his arsenal – he could be better than the best tank in the game: Superman.

A-tier (Tier 2)

This selection of characters is good, however, you may find yourself losing if you can’t maximize the characters’ potential. Here’s the next part of our MultiVersus Tier List.

  • Reindog – Though Reindog has slower abilities, they make it up through big damage capability. ‘Love Leash’ is an excellent team-friendly ability, which saves teammates from certain death.
  • Rick (1/2 of Rick and Morty) – New addition to the MultiVersus roster, Rick sees himself currently in A-tier pre-launch. The scientist can definitely be one of the strongest characters in the game and whilst his move list is not out currently – mages are in a really strong spot at the moment! It wouldn’t surprise me if Rick sees himself in A-tier instantly due to how powerful projectiles are currently in this game’s meta.
  • Batman – A game including DC cannot forget one of the most known characters in the universe, Batman. Grapples and bombs are great to cause havoc to enemies. Batman currently is in a strong spot. As one of the better bruisers, he’s a great pick if you enjoy being on the frontline and engaging in fights. His disengage is really good too!
  • Superman – The Man Of Steel is a great character in MultiVersus. With multiple attacks and an array of special attacks that can be taken advantage of, Superman is certainly lethal. He is one of the biggest tanks in the game that can inflict a good amount of damage before being finished. His armor allows him to take a lot of hits and has great recovery too. His neutral freeze ability provides excellent crowd control leaving enemies vulnerable – however, it may be too long and can be sometimes ineffective!
  • Velma – A support player, she’s great at buffing allies and also does a bit of damage to enemies. ‘Fast Thinker’ is an impactful ability and can even call cops to clear enemies! A great all-around support character to set up her teammates.
  • LeBron James – the NBA legend is classed as a bruiser he is a perfect blend of melee and ranged with his abilities being able to hit multiple people at once. Time will tell how he fits in.
  • Shaggy (+1)- A very hard character to master! Though the character is versatile, it may take some time to get him down in comparison to other characters. Some say Shaggy is capable of S-tier status if you’re able to master him! Shaggy as of August 2022 gets a bump up from July which saw him sitting at B-tier. From the general response of the game and also the community, Shaggy is a popular pick in MultiVersus however in this current meta is definitely now a viable pick in the competitive queue as bruisers seem to be in a great spot currently which sees Shaggy from B-tier to A!
  • Wonder Woman (+1)- A not very flashy character, though ‘Lasso of Truth’ is effective. Her other moves, ‘Warrior’s Change’ and ‘Defense of the Gods Special’ seem to be a bit hit and miss. She may not have the best power, however, she can be a versatile 2v2 character. Nevertheless – her kit seems very detrimental at times with slow cooldowns. WW is expecting a buff however according to developers, and following the performance from NAKAT at EVO 2022, it’s expected a healthy buff will be received for her, hence why we have anticipated a push into A-tier for her once Season One rolls.
  • Taz: (Special moves: Taz-nado Dogpile! Dogpile!) This little monster is already setting the community alight with his spin. Perfect for hyper-aggressive players, or those new at the game who want a few quick wins under their belt. Thanks to his spin, he can charge into enemies and know them – setting them up for devastating finishes. This, combined with a passive that allows him to heal quickly, makes Taz one of the strongest characters in the game, even if he’s been nerfed. Due to these nerfs however, Taz is moving down to A-tier to where we’ve seen a drop in pick-rates since open beta and the nerfs that came to him. We can hope Taz goes back up once developers re-buff him again!
  • Stripe – Stripe from Gremlins sees himself in A-tier! While he may be strong, we predict he’ll be either a mage or bruiser – which is a very oversaturated class! From what we see in pick percentages and pro play will dictate where Stripe will end up or remain possibly.

B-tier (Tier 3)

For the rest of the roster, these characters are good, however, need mastery to perfect. It could take quite some time to utilize these.

  • Arya Stark – Arya Stark of Winterfell. A great assassin archetype character, able to cut through defenses and deal decent damage. Being able to steal enemy faces (which stuns), is very a team-friendly ability! Arya has recently fallen from A tier to B tier due to the lack of play she has been getting recently.
  • Jake The Dog – A bruiser who is slightly underpowered. A very situational character however when synergizing with other allies, it can be a strong bruiser that can deny recovery easily.
  • Morty (1/2 of Rick and Morty)* – The other half, Morty, sees himself in B-tier. Classed as a bruiser, we can see Morty possibly underwhelmed in the meta due to a healthy plethora of bruisers in the game currently. Whilst no moves are released we’ve placed him in B-tier currently to see how he can fare against other bruisers in the game once he’s released.
  • Steven Universe – A decent support character, who has the ability to provide shields and bubbles, which can be useful in certain setups.
  • Garnet – Capable of great damage but a very weak defender. Her wind-ups are also very slow, however, she can pack a punch when used correctly dealing a good amount of damage. However, her slow moves leave her vulnerable at times when recovering which could exploit her to a huge combo.
  • Iron Giant – Sluggish. A decent damage dealer but has incredibly slow abilities and while he can damage multiple enemies at one time, his size is also very easy to target.

Which characters are best suited for certain modes?

Source: GamesRadar+, 2022

We have a plethora of characters above that strong in their own sense. However with a few choices of modes to play certain characters fit them more than others.

Here are our recommended characters per game mode:

One v One:

  • Harley Quinn
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Finn
  • Batman

Bruisers tend to find themselves as the best class to choose in solo situations as action is upfront most of the time!

These characters will definitely have enough in their kit to keep survivability high whilst ensuring you’re inputting good damage in solo matches.

Bugs Bunny is still an S-tier pick in any scenario due to his versatility and how much he can do

Regardless if Bugs Bunny will see a nerf in Season One, the character should still remain very strong in the current meta.

Two v Two:

Source: Reddit, 2022
  • Velma
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Reindog
  • Shaggy

In a 2v2 scenario, we would see a lot more utility played around here, players like Velma and Reindog would be crucial for more survivability but also assisting bruisers and assassins as there is now another player to worry about in the arena.

Bugs Bunny is still in the 2v2 list due to his versatility which shows how strong he is currently in the meta.

Tom & Jerry see an addition here which is important as they bring a lot of versatility with being a mage / ranged character and getting two for the price of one!

What does the community think?

Following our tier list, we’ve had a look at Reddit and the MultiVersus’ community seems to have conflicting opinions.

It seems that a consensus agreement amongst the community sees that Finn is currently one of the most popular and ‘overpowered’ characters in the game.

Some have said that Shaggy is under-appreciated and is actually a strong character in the game currently!
