Fate Grand Order (FGO) is a turn-based, tactical RPG where the player assumes a “Master” role. Like other mobile games, the core of the gameplay uses heroes, which they refer to a Servants. Throughout your journey in the Fate Grand Order, you’ll generate new characters to play with or sell to improve further the characters you like. It can become a pain working out who the best servants are in Fate Grand Order with so many characters. Therefore, we have tailored an FGO Tier List to suit your needs.
FGO Tier List Breakdown
Before heading into the Fate Grand Order Tier List, there are a few factors to know. In each team of servants, there are three active and three reserve units. Also, you gain five command cards at the start of each turn, where you can use three to attack every round. Combine these attacks with your Servent unique abilities; the game generates quite a lot of powerful combos and compositions.
You’ll want to keep all of this in mind as you begin to theorise compositions based on the rarity of the Gacha inspired servants, along with ability synergy and command cards,
- S Tier – S tier servants on the Fate Grand Order Tier List are the strongest servants in the game. The best servants typically tend to be 5-star rarity too, so acquiring a full list of the best servants is a big grind.
- A Tier – A Tier servents are also really good, and can become centerpieces in any servent squad. However, they tend to have a more notable weakness or require specific compositions to work correctly. They’ll still take you all the way into the end game, as they are very good picks overfall.
- B Tier – These characters the more balanced characters in the game. They’ll still work at the end game, and are more likely to pop up than the above tier, especially since there’s more of them and less rare pieces begin entering this batch of servants.
- C Tier – Those that find themselves in this territory are unfortunately a little underpowered. You’ll find the rarity of these characters is either easier to acquire, making them beginner servants to use. Alternatively, these are higher rarity servants that are designed to get thrown into the bin for resources later on.
- D Tier – The worst of the worst belong here. These are only viable for the early game as you begin your journey on Fate/Grand Order.
With the concept out of the way, let us take a look at who are the best servants in Fate Grand Order, and the worst.
Best Servants in Fate Grand Order
Before we go all-in on a fully structured Fate Grand Order Tier List, we will highlight some of the best servants for the more meta classes. The most dominant classes are Support classes, along with Assassins, Berserkers, Riders, and Sabers. There are other classes like Ruler, Lancer, and other such classes; however, their roles mainly dominant the Midsection of the Tier List. We believe aiming for some of the highlights in the aforementioned classes are the play if you want to dominate the Fate Grand Order end-game.
Best Support Caster Servants in FGO Tier List
A lot of the best servants in the FGO Tier List are support based characters. Take Scathach-Skadi, for example. Her abilities heavily favour quick attacks, enhancing quick cards and critical damage via her Primeval Rune. Furthermore, her Shivering Blizzard ability lowers enemy defence and reduces their critical strike. If you like quick attacks and critical strikes, this character is a must-have for that composition playstyle.
If you want a more filler support, that fits into any playstyle or team, then Zhuge Liang is a perfect fit. His primary ability fills his allies NP bar, which accelerate their own abilities via his Command of the Strategist ability. Also, his general defensive buffs via Advice of the Strategist makes taking on even the strongest bosses and baddies even easier. Either way, Zhuge has you in safe hands.
Lastly, Merlin is another banger of a Support Caster. His Dreamlike Charisma is a great ability to empower his allies NP gauge and grant a party-wide attack buff for three turns. One of the more overpowered abilities is the Illusion spell, which bolsters party critical strikes and grants invincibility for one turn. Lastly, the Hero Creation spell is an ability that channels even more strength into a specific character, improving their Buster performance, along with a Max HP boost for three turns each. The usefulness of these spells is unprecedented, making Merlin even potentially the best character on the entirety of the FGO Tier List.
Best Berserkers
Cu Chulainn (Alter) is all about controlling the battlefield with his Godly Irish shouts. Madness of the Spirits is a powerful debuff tool, nerfing the enemy attack damage and crit chance for three turns, shutting down many Archers and Assassins in the process. If that isn’t enough, he can further increase his defense and evasion sats for several turns while offering himself Guts for five turns. All of these battlefield control abilities sit on top of his passive buffs for certain Control Cards and a rather large flat amount of HP and Attack Damage anyway. Overall, it is easy to see why Cu Chulain dominates the Berserker class in the FGO Tier List.
Mysterious Heroine X (Alter) is an interesting character that focuses on blood rage and the healing that comes with it. Her Paste is a morphing skill, which increases self-healing for three turns, but can morph to increase Command Cards power levels. After that, she can increase party attacks for three turns and critical star generation. Imagine pairing this servant with Jack the Ripper and Wolfgang? Now that is a scary attack power buffing team!
Best Archers
Tesla is an interesting pick for a team. The character is all about using the first skill Galvinism/Tesla Coil to improve his or his allies NP generation. The second ability is a random 80% chance to increase even more NP damage for a turn, along with defence, while guaranteeing a Guts buff for a turn. Finally, Pioneer of the Stars grants him a unique effect of ignoring invincibility for three turns, granting ten crit stars and filling the NP gauge . As you can tell, this character can do some absolute crazy damage when he gets to scale. While you can see the potential, we recommend learning a lot about the game before properly executing Tesla effectively.
Orion plays a little different from other Archers, with more direct buffs. The Affection of Goddess skill is a guaranteed defense attack power and debuff resistance buff. The second skill is weird, as it deals bonus damage to specifically male enemies for a turn. Kinda cool if there is a big beefcake male berserker or Rider on the other team, but it can be a bit meh in other instances. Lastly, the Eye of the Mind skill increases critical damage. Take into account that Orion has an 11% crit damage passive buff anyway, and this character can become the best critical strike character in the game.
Best Riders
Achilles is an interesting Rider, with a mixture of damage and tanking alike. The character gets critical damage and quick performance self-buff via Comet Form but then can taunt and grant himself invincible for several turns. If you like the hybrid playstyle, filled with adaptation, then Achilles might be the best Rider available.
Ozymandias is a supportive Rider class rather than a tank Rider. The reason why is Protection from Ra increases the party’s buff success rate for a turn. Charisma is another party-wide attack buff, making Ozy a flexible Servant to bring to a party. On the other hand, Imperial Privilege offers a 60% chance to buff his own attack and defense stats for three turns, while guaranteeing a self-heal. Not quite that favourable when you really need the buffs, but it is nice when it pops off. If you opt for a party that likes rolling the bones, then the third ability is extremely valuable.
Best Saber
Nero is a specialist character that can change the outcome of the battle on Waterside and City battlefields. It is certainly a niche, and a Servant that requires strategy, but when it works, it really works. Regardless, the ability is a nice mental buff and the usual SP buff and healing bonus if used in the right setting. Sync this Servent with Ozymandias, and the Imperial Privilege skill is bolstered. That is a feasible composition right there!
Okita Souji is another grand Saber Servant. This is a Saber that can gain Quick bonuses, along with crit absorption and evasion defensive stats. Finally, the Eye of the Mind skill grants critical damage for three turns. So, if you need to off-tank or blow someone up, this character is a good shout. However, be warned that this special character can only get summoned during special summoning events. Therefore, you may want to look for other Saber highlights elsewhere on the Tier List. But when this toon is up, you most certainly want to grind to summon her.
Best Assassin
Kama is easily the best assassin on the Fate Grand Order Tier List. The reason is down to the Ananga Ranga ability, which bolsters their own attack damage for three turns and grants Guts buff for one turn. Combine this with Merlin’s attack damage buff for three turns or Skadi’s Quick buffs; then this servant can well and truly excel in a support comp.
If you are a big fan of the victorian devil, Jack the Ripper, then you’ll be pleased to know he is just as dastardly in FGO. Unlike Kama, which is all about pumping out damage, this character is more subtle. The Information Esurance skill removed debuffs from an enemy on the field. The sleight of hand is enough to completely negate an offensive or defensive window, creating plenty of room for the team. Lastly, this character can restore health to an ally with Surgery, or tank a beating through Murderer of the Misty Night. Overall, Jack the Ripper is very handy to have around, while dishing out some decent damage with any cards.
Best easy to collect Servents
While these characters are not the best, they have tremendous value, considering their rarity and easy to acquire. Take Arash, for example. She is a self-sufficient 1-star character, with a self-heal, NP Gauge, critical strike, and defense. While you’ll eventually want to swap her out, this character is extremely valuable for the vast majority of the game.
If you like the melee playstyles, then Spartacus is a good shout. For a 1-star, this character has some high-level endurance and strength but not quite comparable to other berserkers, like Cu Chulainn Altered. The character has so much self-healing that taking down Sparatuc without proper damage, burst, or dispel makes him night unstoppable.
If you need a dedicated tank early on, Georgios is a key servant for taking control. His primary skill Guardian Knight, which taunts all enemies to attack him for three turns while increasing his own defense stats for the same duration. The other important skill is Battle Continuation, which grants Guts for five turns. You can see why this is an ideal tank for new players or less optimized squads.
Wolfgang is a supportive Archer, that you’re better of thinking of as a bard like Servant. The reason why is down to the first skill, Protection of the Music God, which grants all party members bonus attack power for a turn. Combine this with Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and you’ll be gaining Critical Stars fast. Picking up the Servent early on is a sure way to progress cleanly into the end-game without much issue.
