Resident Evil 4 Remake is nearly here – and will be arriving for a multitude of consoles and PC this week. It’s set to arrive on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC.
However, in a shock move, the Resident Evil 4 Remake will not be coming out on the last-gen Xbox One. For those on PS4, though, you’re in luck – and there’s even a way you can upgrade your version to the PS5 if you decide to purchase that console.

A lot of the information about how to upgrade Resident Evil 4 Remake to PS5 can be found on the official website for the game, however we have broken this down below into both a disc version and the eligible digital upgrade.
With Resident Evil 4 Remake, you have the option to upgrade a disc or digital PS4 game to the digital PS5 version. An internet connection is required and unlike some other games, you won’t need to pay for an upgrade. It’s included in the price.
How to upgrade Resident Evil 4 Remake to PS5 – physical disk
Please follow the steps below to upgrade your copy of the game to the PS5 version. Note, to do this you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
- Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console (or create an account).
- Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
- Go to the game hub for the PS4 game.
- Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
- Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
- After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

Upgrade an eligible PS4 digital game on a PS5 console with a disc drive or PS5 Digital Edition
To upgrade an eligible digital PS4 game you already own to the digital PS5 version:
- Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console.
- Find the PS5 game in PlayStation™Store, or by Search, and go to the game hub for the PS5 game.
- Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
- Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
- After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 game.
As per the official website: “PS4 games redeemed as a PlayStation Plus benefit are not eligible for a PS5 upgrade unless otherwise indicated.”
