Warzone 2 has officially announced that it’ll feature proximity chat. But what is Proximity Chat? What does it mean?

The feature has been incredibly common in big online games lately, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has the scoop on it just yet.

How will this change the way you play Call Of Duty Warzone 2? We detail everything that you need to know.

Warzone 2 Proximity Chat Explained

So you might know Proximity Chat from various other games.

Recently, it’s been used in a popular Among Us mod that allowed players to talk to each other and hear each other while within a certain distance, but it’s not uncommon for other FPS (First-Person Shooter) games to use it.

Titles such as Escape From Tarkov, Squad, and Hell Let Loose also use it, allowing you to greatly immerse yourself in the game.

Warzone 2 will use it in an effort to make sure it doesn’t become utter chaos trying to decipher the words and ramblings of a three-digit crowd of people and will allow for greater communication through teams and enemies alike.

Why Is Proximity Chat Useful?

Proximity Chat is useful for immersion purposes, along with streamlining relative chaos. Imagine you were in a room with over one hundred different people, all talking at once.

You wouldn’t understand a single thing that any of them were saying, but if you could only hear three of those people, then you stand a greater chance of understanding what’s being said.

This principle is transferable to a game such as Call Of Duty Warzone 2, with players able to communicate to each other exactly which position they should be taking, how they should be taking on an enemy, and what strategy to take at any given moment.

How to Turn Off Proximity Chat

Warzone 2 Turn off Proximity Chat

If, despite our warning above, you need to disable Proximity Chat in Warzone 2, it can be done. Follow the instructions below to disable the feature, but be warned, you’ll be at a sizable disadvantage compared with the enemy teams.

  • Go to ‘settings’ then ‘audio.’
  • Under ‘Voice Chat,’ make sure Proximity Chat is set to ‘Off.’

It’s as simple as that. Just don’t come crying to us when you get caught off-guard by someone who could have actually been a partner in game modes like DMZ where soloing is tough work.

What Other Games Use Proximity Chat?

Proximity Chat is a surprisingly popular feature these days. A lot of games with a basis in social interaction either rely on the feature entirely or are seriously enhanced by it.

There are loads of games currently on the market that use Proximity Chat to beef up the gameplay. One big example is Escape from Tarkov, which has led to some humorous/frustrating moments for players who didn’t realize the game supported this feature.

Other games like Among Us had the feature modded in, but either way, it’s a love-it or hate-it feature. Many people find it more immersive, but there are just as many people out there who have an intense hatred for it for one reason or another.

Hopefully, it won’t bother any Warzone 2 fans since it feels even more necessary for a BR game.
