PlayStation Plus — What is it?
We take a look at the ins and outs of PlayStation Plus so you can figure out if you actually need it
PlayStation Plus is Sony’s online subscription service for PlayStation consoles. If you play online, you most likely need to pay for the privilege. The only exceptions to this rule are free-to-play games. This means that, if your favourite online multiplayer game is free to begin with, you do not need PS Plus to access online multiplayer gameplay. Some prime examples of this would be Fortnite or Apex Legends.
Most likely, though, you don’t exclusively play free-to-play and offline single-player games. If you play online multiplayer games like FIFA or Call of Duty, you’ll need to pay for your online gameplay, thus you need PlayStation Plus. When you have a current PS Plus subscription, you’ll get access to that online play, plus three free games each month.
PS Plus – How much does it cost?
You can currently buy PlayStation Plus for one, three or 12 months at a time.
Free games with PS Plus
Another bonus you will get with your PS Plus subscription is up to three free games every month. Usually, the free games available will include two PS4 titles and one for PS5, meaning only those with a next-gen console play all three. Be sure to keep an eye on those PlayStation Plus games every month to make sure you are getting the most out of your subscription!
PS Plus games – March 2022
The PlayStation Plus free games for March 2022 are available to download and play from March 1. On PS4 and PS5, you’ll be able to play ARK: Survival Evolved and Team Sonic Racing, while PS5 players will also be able to download Ghostrunner.
Download the free games within the month of their promotion and they’ll be yours to own and play forever.
PlayStation Plus exclusive content packs
As an owner of a PS Plus subscription, you’ll also be eligible to claim in-game rewards for the most popular free-to-play games, such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends. These packs include PlayStation exclusive cosmetic items such as avatar skins, weapon skins and emblems.
Exclusive Member Discounts
Finally, you will also find that you have access to a number of discounts as a member of PlayStation Plus. While browsing the PlayStation Store, you will be able to see that some prices are marked down with exclusive promotional prices, just for members of the PS Plus family.
