PlayStation Plus — What is it?

We take a look at the ins and outs of PlayStation Plus so you can figure out if you actually need it

What is Ps Plus

PlayStation Plus is Sony’s online subscription service for PlayStation consoles. If you play online, you most likely need to pay for the privilege. The only exceptions to this rule are free-to-play games. This means that, if your favourite online multiplayer game is free to begin with, you do not need PS Plus to access online multiplayer gameplay. Some prime examples of this would be Fortnite or Apex Legends.

Most likely, though, you don’t exclusively play free-to-play and offline single-player games. If you play online multiplayer games like FIFA or Call of Duty, you’ll need to pay for your online gameplay, thus you need PlayStation Plus. When you have a current PS Plus subscription, you’ll get access to that online play, plus three free games each month.

PS Plus – How much does it cost?

You can currently buy PlayStation Plus for one, three or 12 months at a time.

1 month$9.99£6.99€8.99
3 months$24.99£19.99€24.99
12 months$59.99£49.99€59.99

Free games with PS Plus

Another bonus you will get with your PS Plus subscription is up to three free games every month. Usually, the free games available will include two PS4 titles and one for PS5, meaning only those with a next-gen console play all three. Be sure to keep an eye on those PlayStation Plus games every month to make sure you are getting the most out of your subscription!
