Diablo 4 will bring a whole new cohort of players to the game series, and dungeon crawlers generally, many of whom may wonder what renown is in Diablo 4.
It’s a kind of reputation stat, but, more importantly, it can be used to earn a bunch of rewards. And rewards that only go to one character but a player’s whole account! If you’re interested to find out more about what renown is and how it can benefit you then we’ve put together this handy guide to outline it all.
What is renown in Diablo 4?
In Diablo lore, renown is a kind of reputation or honor system, and on which determines how much in-game factions know and respect your character.
You can earn renown by carrying out specific actions in every region to gain rewards. At the moment, we know of the following means in Diablo 4 through which you can gain renown:
- Finding a new area (earns 2 Renown)
- Interacting with Altars of Lilith for the first time (earns 5 Renown)
- Unlocking waypoints (earns 10 Renown)
- Completing side quests (earns 15 Renown)
- Completing Dungeons (earns 20 Renown)
- Liberating Strongholds (earns 50 Renown)
There are different factions and groups in each region remember, so you will have – or there will be – a unique renown score for each area. As a result of this, you can get uneven or differing renown scores in each region depending on what you’ve done there or not done there.
How to level up renown in Diablo 4
Every region’s renown score has five stages that you’ll have to reach in order to achieve and reach. The renown number might seem high at each stage, but it’s definitely a worthwhile endeavour as the rewards are definitely worth it so it’s an investment that pays off.
One of the biggest reasons for this is the increasing amount of gold you’ll earn whenever you up the level of your renown (regardless of what level or region) – but on top of that you get another reward. What sets this apart is that this reward applies to your account not just any one character, and will apply the first time a player’s character reaches the relevant tier.
Rewards for levelling up renown
Renown stage | Renown requirement | Reward |
Stage 1 | 80 | +1 skill point |
Stage 2 | 180 | +1 potion charge |
Stage 3 | 300 | +1 skill point |
Stage 4 | 500 | +80 max obols |
Stage 5 | 600 | +4 paragon points |
While the requirements for reaching every next level of renown will be taxing, it’s worth remembering that you earn renown for doing a whole host of activities you do naturally anyway.
