The new Navi 31-powered Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards from AMD, which are a 4K and 8K gaming powerhouse and are based on the new RDNA 3 GPU architecture, have officially been released.
The new Radeon RX 7900 XTX has some serious power inside of it, and AMD completely dominates NVIDIA in one area: it supports the new DisplayPort 2.1 standard, whereas NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics cards are stuck using DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, which is practically a relic from the 1990s.

When it comes to genuinely dizzying heights like 8K 165Hz and 4K 480Hz, DisplayPort 2.1 can handle much, much greater refresh rates at higher resolutions, which should melt the eyes of most gamers. In fact, DP2.1 can even drive a crazy 1440p at 900Hz.
With 24GB of GDDR6 memory and a Navi 31-powered GPU, AMD’s new Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card absolutely carves through games at 4K and 8k in some rapid and heavy testing.
AMD hinted that high-resolution DisplayPort 2.1-capable displays from Dell, Samsung, ASUS, LG, and Acer will become available in the first half in 2024. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, which was a teaser for the “first 8K ultrawide” display, will undoubtedly be revealed at CES 2023, which, if you can believe it, is only a few days away.
Take that, PlayStation 5! The new AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card can play Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection at 8K 73FPS while tearing through Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla at 8K 96FPS. However, remember that all of these games have FSR enabled (AMD’s equivalent of DLSS), so these results may vary slightly.
And SmartAccess Video joins the other “smart” solutions the business offers, such as Smart Access Memory. In this situation, the encoding and decoding workloads distribution between the Ryzen 7000 CPU and RX 7000 GPU allows for greater performance. That will start to happen in December.
Can 7900 XT do 4k?
4K gaming is designed for the 7900XT. Additionally, the AMD graphics card uses less energy. The RX 7900 XT can consume up to 300 W of electricity at maximum load.
These first RDNA 3-architecture GPUs are the first graphics cards to use a multi-die “chiplet” design, drawing inspiration from AMD’s phenomenal Ryzen success. They also include enhanced ray tracing capabilities, the addition of AI cores, and tonnes of VRAM.
At $899, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT aren’t exactly cheap. Still, it costs a lot less than Nvidia’s initial offerings. It will be able to deliver a captivating 4K+ gaming experience thanks to several intriguing advancements and improved ray tracing abilities.
Despite AMD’s presentation being generally fascinating, we had a lot of questions. If not their own RDNA 2 forebears, how will the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT compare to the GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080? Does the use of numerous dies result in any strange performance effects?
Will RDNA 3 ray tracing ultimately provide a captivating experience? When these brand-new graphics cards go on sale on December 13, we won’t know the answers until we see independent benchmarks. But so far from what Team Red shows you can expect good performance at 4k.
