RDNA 3 came out in fighting the big dog of RTX 4000. With improvements over the previous generation and an opportunity to fight up against its competitor, so is the RX 7900 XTX good?
The graphics card came alongside the RX 7900. Both of these led to the new generation of AMD Radeon cards. And only these cards came, leaving out the lower-end, cheaper options.
So with that, we look to what the card has to offer.

The quad slot GPU is an overclocked version, boosting up the performance over the rest of the selection. It improves all of the clock rates, by between 2-6%.
Whilst also requiring an extra 8-pin power connector. And changing the outputs to remove the USB-C for another DisplayPort.
Whilst also changing the design of the card to a custom cooling solution. Aimed to improve what the 7900 XTX can achieve.
ASUS TUF RX 7900 XTX gaming performance
Our test bench used for the testing:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
- Cooler: Asus ROG RYUJIN II 360
- RAM: 2x 16GB Trident Z5 Neo DDR5
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero
- PSU: ASUS ROG Thor 1200W
- Case: Cooler Master MF 700
We can see the RX 7900 XTX is a perfectly capable card through 1080p all the way to 4k. Although at times it may be necessary to turn down from the highest level.
Although the ray tracing performance has improved this generation, it still falls behind. Turning down the graphics at that level, or in some titles does still make it a playable and good use of the card.
But comparatively, it is still the weaker part. However, it does have the benefit of RSR allowing upscaling and performance gains in any title. Unlike DLSS limited to implementations of it.
RX 7900 XTX synthetic performance
The card is plenty powerful. And in 3DMarks leaderboard, it does come in second, behind the RTX 4090. So it is a much more affordable option when it comes to picking out a good choice GPU.
Is the RX 7900 XTX good?
So overall, the RX 7900 XTX is a good graphics card. As a cheaper alternative to its competition, it does offer a better value for money. It also offers a more economical solution to the other options.
Whilst the ASUS TUF is a great choice of a custom model. As it offers better performance than the competition. Along with a great build quality and cooling solution to keep it running in the long term.
