Today we’re going to take a look at the PS5 GPU equivalents when it comes to desktop graphics cards. If you’ve been looking for a great GPU to match the performance of (or come close to) the PS5, we’ve put them all together in one place. Any console gamer hoping to draw the same performance from their first gaming PC, or just anyone looking for a new graphics card, should pay attention to these PS5 GPU equivalents.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 is the PS5‘s closest performance-wise GPU counterpart. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 more closely matches the PS5’s performance in benchmarks, even while AMD GPUs, such as the Radeon RX 5700 XT, more closely resemble the Oberon graphics card inside the PS5, and you can read our review of the 5700XT to get a good look at Radeons uplfit. NVIDIA Turing architecture, 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and support for real-time ray tracing are all included in the RTX 2070. Additionally, it is among the most power-efficient cards, which makes it a great option for players who wish to save their electricity costs.
Therefore, just though an RTX 2070 offers comparable performance to a PS5, it doesn’t guarantee that any gaming PC equipped with an RTX 2070 will have a PS5-like performance. Even if a gaming PC has specs that appear to be comparable, PS5 games are specifically tailored to effectively leverage the specific components of the PS5. Therefore they will run more smoothly on the console.

The RTX 2070 can come fairly close to the price of the PS5. To use your GPU, you’ll need to link it with other PC components, which means your whole investment will be much more expensive. The PS5 is ready to play out of the box, in comparison. Of course, you could always spend less money on a used PS5, but we wouldn’t advise it.
Spending a little bit more on a brand-new PS5 is preferable to taking a chance on a second-hand one. Personal preference will determine whether someone chooses a PS5 or an RTX 2070. We would recommend the RTX 2070 if you want the best gaming experience and don’t mind spending a little more money.
The PS5 is a better option, though, if you’re on a tight budget or just want a straightforward console that’s simple to use. The PS5 Digital Edition’s internal specifications and performance are identical to those of a conventional PS5. This indicates that in terms of performance, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 is still the closest equivalent.

CHECK PRICENow for something more recent and easier to find, there are some PS5 GPU equivalent alternatives to use. These will be easier to find in stock and will have a similar performance level to the cards the PS5 is equivalent to. For that, you want to look for an RTX 3060 or the RX 6600 XT. These both are on a more entry level of the generation and so can be a bit more affordable to put into your build, as we found in our RX 6600 XT testing it offers a strong value for gaming.
These days, you may even prefer opting for something even more current like the RTX 4060 or RX 7600. Although the Nvidia choice in itself is a harder recommendation as we found in our 4060 review. All of these cards have software and technologies to bring even more features to the experience. Especially with getting more out of your performance and having a bit more reliable working ability with the newer hardware that is still widely supported. The addition of DLSS 3 or RSR is a great addition to getting a better experience overall.
In terms of performance, the PS5 is matched by the 2070 and RX 5700 XT. But if you’re looking to outmatch the console then you just about want something a bit more powerful. And as the architecture improves with the generation, then the performance threshold drops down.
Excellent aesthetic design
Great cooling solution
High boost clock speed
On the higher end of the price spectrum
So even a lower-end GPU of a newer generation can do that as well. And in fact, for 2070, a newer RTX 3060 Ti and RX 6700 XT can outperform it. Both of these cards are great options, especially as a mid-range choice with great value for money.
And as it is for a singular component you’re buying rather than a whole console, it is a bit more important. but there is more flexibility as to what you can choose from. And so even higher options over the 3060 and 6600 XT are good alternatives. So the popular RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT are great upgrades to improve what the system can achieve. Especially to improve the integrated system compared to a PC as we’ve seen in our RTX 3080 review.
For an even more recent selection, the likes of the RTX 4070 Super and RX 7700 XT are good options to go for. As we found in our 4070 Super review it offers a strong performance and great value across the board and is a worthy pickup. That is also the case in our 7700 XT review which doesn’t quite hold up as well with ray tracing and rendering as Nvidia choices.

For a direct equivalent GPU to the PS5, you can look towards either the RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT. These are older generation choices but will match what they can achieve.
Now in terms of something more modern and more available, there are also a couple of choices. These could be either the RTX 4060 Ti or RX 7600 XT which will also give the performance levels. While also offering more benefits.
The PS5 uses an AMD Oberon processor. It is based on the RDNA 2 architecture based on TSMC’s 7nm process. Which creates a dies size of 308mm² in size with 10.6 billion transistors. It also features 2,304 shading units, 144 TMUs and 36 compute units, which are clocked in at 2,233 MHz. And the VRAM is 16GB of GDDR6, clocked in at 14 Gbps.
