Intel Core Ultra series processors are said to come with a modified CPU hotspot position that would result in cooling issues. However, MSI’s “Offset Mount” Kit might just solve the issue.
Previously, der8auer on the Overclock3D forums announced that they have made a major discovery regarding the hotspot on the upcoming LGA 1851 CPUs. The experts said that the hotspot is positioned quite a bit further north than it was on 1700 and a cooler redesign might be needed to get the best cooling performance. This detail has since been further verified by the leaker CodeCommando that Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs will have their CPU hotspot positioned slightly north to where it was originally with Raptor Lake.

MSI comes with a new “Offset Mount” Kit that would make its existing coolers work
According to the information by HKEPC, MSI has come up with a unique solution for this hotspot shift issue, supposedly offering an “offset mount” kit that would shift the cooler base towards the northeast to meet the cooling demand of the Arrow Late processors. This would not only allow existing coolers to work with on LGA 1851 CPUs but will also reduce temperatures by more than 3C.

Since a hotspot is where the processor dissipates the most heat, it is of immense value to cooling manufacturers as that is where their product needs to shine in terms of effective heat removal. While initially, we thought that a cooler redesign would be the only solution to the unique challenges posed by the Intel Core Ultra CPUs, it seems like that won’t be needed anymore.
Are other cooling manufacturers preparing similar kits for the Arrow Lake processors?
While MSI is planning to introduce its hotspot shift innovation in the MAG CORELIQUID I360 liquid cooler, other manufacturers have not yet come forward with similar offerings for their products. Additionally, Noctua and Arctic have already confirmed that their LGA 1700 coolers will be compatible with the new LGA 1851 socketed CPUs. This means that other brands are also planning offset mount kits, and if it proves to be the simplest solution, more manufacturers are likely to follow.
