What we like about the WD 24TB Elements external hard drive

First off, Western Digital is a great name to go for when it comes to storage solutions, and you’ll often find its products featured in some of the best high-end PC setups around. While you may be tempted to go for an external SSD or even an internal NVMe SSD, you just can’t beat the value for storage external hard drives like this one provides.

This hard drive is going to be ideal for anyone who’s working with a tonne of data, especially those who are content creators or photographers.

  • Massive capacity: 24TB is about 3x as much as most top-tier SSD alternatives, but way more affordable. To put this in perspective 1TB can hold about 100 hours of 4K video content.
  • Surprisingly fast: Features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity, which provides faster data transfer speeds.
  • Plug & play storage: Easy to setup and use with PC and Mac.
  • Better options for console: You’ll want to lean more towards console specific HDDs if you’re planning on increasing your gaming library storage.

Is it a good time to buy?

As you can see from the graph above, this hard drive is currently back down to its best price ever again on Amazon, after a fairly long period of being much closer to full price. It’s a great time to buy, and if its pricing history tells us anything, it may not be reduced for too much longer either.

If you are looking for something a little more speedy, and you don’t think you’ll be using the 24TB of space this hard drive provides, I’d recommend considering a 4TB external SSD from WD instead. For video editors and content creators, this could be enough for you, and there are some good options that can be used to store games too – many of which are reduced.
