One of the retail losses borne from the Covid-19 pandemic was July’s Amazon Prime Day, which the company postponed due to the situation, logical issues, and general mood of the global population.
It was never going to vanish forever though and sources are unanimously confirming this evening that the date has been penciled in for October 13 and 14th – realistically the last available slot it could fit into without overlapping Black Friday and then the run to the Holiday Sales.
While no dates have been formally announced as yet, we are expecting to hear confirmation before the end of the week. If you have an Alexa you can ask your device to keep you up to date. Of course, traditionally Prime Day is a great day to pick up an Alexa Device, so this may come a year early for you.
With Black Friday due at the end of the following month the rumor mill is busy suggesting that the event will pretty much span an entire month of deals, starting around the 26th October.
This seems like a long period for customers to keep track of, but with the HIgh Street still being such a mess due to social distancing, it seems Amazon may well be banking on the idea many more people will be shopping for the holidays online this year.
The one unmentionable variable may well be the potential return of Covid rearing it’s microbiological head once more as parts of Europe begin to announce the arrival of the ‘second wave’ there are still going to be issues for Amazon to face, potentially with sickness affecting its giant logistical operation.
In Spring the company trimmed down on what was available online, keeping it to mainly essentials with other items having longer waiting lists that customers are used to.
As a business though there is a huge sum of cash to be made if they can traverse these waters and get it right. One thing is for sure, they have had a good few months to get the planning for this right.
