In perhaps the most blatant hint yet that AMD are preparing to start announcing their next generation of graphics cards, an easter egg has been spotted in the mega-popular Battle Royale Fortnite, hinting that we can perhaps expect an official announcement for AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, codenamed “Big Navi”.
Streamer MissGinaDarling has spotted the easter egg, hidden in the AMD Battle Arena map:

This would be a natural continuation of the naming scheme that AMD has adopted for their existing GPUs, the 5000 series, which first launched back in 2017.
If you want to check out this easter egg for yourself, head over to the AMD Battle ArenaAMD Battle Arena. If you look carefully, you’ll spot a phone booth hidden outside the play area, but with some creative jumping, and running across the top of walls, you can make it to the phone booth. From there, it’s simply a matter of using the phone booth, then entering the code “6000” into the terminal.
It’s perhaps a sign of just how big Fortnite is that they’re able to engage in cross promotions with both Nvidia and AMD for both of their new GPUs. Fornite was included in the recent announcement of Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 30-series GPUs, showing off some fancy ray tracing features that will be added to the game soon.
The pressure is certainly on AMD to deliver a compelling competitor to Nvidia, with the announcement of the RTX 30-series having impressed on all counts, including not only a big jump in performance, but some killer new features. AMD has lost a lot of ground to Nvidia in recent years, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that their answer to the RTX 30-series will be worth the wait.
Stick with WePC for the latest news on AMD’s upcoming GPUs, and we’ll have some in-depth comparisons between the RX 6000 series and RTX 30-series as soon as we can get our hands on them.
