The early Cyber Monday discounts keep coming; with a fantastic deal on the 5600X, which we have reviewed, and the accompanying B550 plus motherboard, these components work perfectly together and would be right at home in a budget PC build. You can nab both of these components for a very tasty $124.99 – a 19% saving on an otherwise very competitively priced bundle.
When building a PC, the biggest pain (apart from coordinating delivery so everything arrives simultaneously) is choosing compatible parts. With this bundle, some of the work is done for you. You don’t need to worry about your CPU being compatible with your motherboard, as the motherboard has likely had a BIOS update by the seller to ensure compatibility. (In the 5000 series days, sometimes you need an old processor to perform a BIOS update).

That said, this bundle will excel in an all-around budget build. So, let’s get to the features that make this bundle of components a worthwhile investment; and possibly some reasons why it may not be the no-brainer you think it is.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X & ASUS Prime B550-PLUS bundle
Besides the obvious 5600X and B550 chipset motherboard, there are a few things you might want to know before purchasing these components.
this CPU is the budget gaming performance king (or queen) right now, as AM4 as a platform is generally really affordable right now, even outside the sales period. So this tech is very popular in budget sub $800 PC builds. Anyway, back to the 5600X. This is a 6-core and 12-thread CPU, meaning it’s all right for multitasking and productivity workloads, but it pales in comparison to some of the big boys out there.
With a core boost speed of p to 4.6 GHz, it makes light work of games when paired with a capable GPU. As long as your GPU can keep up, there’s no reason why this CPU can’t smash games in 4K. Just don’t try running high-intensity simulations on it; you’ll probably get there eventually, but it might take a while.
The other benefit of the 5000 series CPUs is that they don’t run very hot, so you can allocate less money to your cooler budget. In actuality, the 5600X should be used with the Wraith Stealth cooler, making the setup simpler still.
The Asus Prime B550 is a nice middle ground regarding motherboards; it provides many features for something generally considered to be budget. First, it’s got a DIGI+ VRM with 10+1 DrMOS Power Stages, which is more than enough for the 5600X but might be lacking when overclocking some of the bigger Zen 3 CPUs, such as the 5950X.
Internally it has a 64Gb/s M.2 port that supports PCIe 4.0 drives. You can save a buck by opting for an actual PCI Gen 3 M.2 drive. But you will suffer slower speeds if you upgrade your PC in the future and stick with the same drive because it’s the one you installed your OS on. The Prime also supports a maximum of 128GB DDR4 of memory, clocked at 4600MHz. This is important given that the Ryzen core communication speed is directly correlated with the memory speed of the 5000 series.
This is a solid motherboard to pair with the 5600X, as it does not need much support from the system. It doesn’t use a lot of power (65W), doesn’t need a lot of cooling, and doesn’t ask for the word, but it gives us its in return. This was back when CPUs were made properly.
Ultimately, this is a fantastic deal, as I can almost guarantee that no other places offer this bundle for less than $194.99. not only that, but this is the lowest price it has ever been, according to Camelcamelcamel (an Amazon price tracker).

This indicates that this is the best time to buy this bundle, as the prices are unlikely to drop much after Cyber Monday.
