While the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 5 5600X3D have already been discontinued, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D still has plenty of life left in the tank. However, it’s unlikely anyone will purchase the CPU at its current inflated price. The latest price update from Amazon shows the CPU back in stock after weeks of unavailability, but it’s still priced high at $478 – a fairly hefty prospect, especially when the brand’s upcoming 9800X3D has just had an official unveiling.
Prices continue to surge as 9800X3D release draws closer
As of writing this, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is listed at $478 on Amazon. In the previous price surge, it was priced at $450, meaning it has increased by $28 in just 20 days. We know that AMD’s last-gen CPUs are facing price increases and discontinuations as part of the company’s strategy to push consumers toward their latest offerings, which in this case is, the upcoming Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

Should you get the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or wait for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D?
In recent weeks, we’ve seen a number of leaks regarding the 9800X3D, with the latest being rumored pricing and a teaser trailer from Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President at AMD. Popular online retailer, tech-america.com, listed the upcoming Ryzen 9800X3D for $484, just $10 more than the current price of the 7800X3D. With the 9800X3D release date approaching and this potential price point in mind, we don’t think it’s best to get the 7800X3D, especially during this inventory cleanup phase.
The 9800X3D is expected to deliver double-digit performance gains and a higher base clock, all at a price similar to the last-gen processor. AMD is set to announce its next-gen 3D V-cache CPU on October 25th, with availability for end consumers set for early November.
