Original release date pushed back to August
The latest generation CPUs from AMD were supposed to be released at the end of July (31st July). However, AMD announced on the 25th July that the release had been delayed stating that they had ‘identified an issue with our package product testing process for Ryzen 9000 series processors’ this meant that there could be a small number of defects reaching the market and therefore not passing AMDs internal quality checks.
The new chips were unveiled during Dr Lisa Su’s keynote. The key takeaway was the flagship’s 16% average higher IPC when compared to Ryzen 7000. We also know that we are set to get your usual four SKUs: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X.
AMD Ryzen 9000 release date, 8th August and 15th August
AMD also announced that the new release date for the Ryzen 9000 series CPUs would be staggered, with the Ryzen 9600X and Ryzen 9700X launching on the 8th August 2024 and the Ryzen 9900X and Ryzen 9950X launching on the 15th August.

We also know that AMD is going to commit to the AM5 platform, at least until 2027, and we can expect a new flagship 800-series motherboard to boot – the X870/ X870E. The new generation will be DDR5 only, support USB4, PCIe 5 Gen5 graphics, and a higher EXPO memory clock support. However, expect the release of the new motherboards in September, so anyone considering a full build might want to consider the current selection of AM5 motherboards.
AMD Ryzen 9000 Processors & Specifications

The official specs for the Ryzen 9000 were again pretty close to the more recent leaks and rumors. The flagship will come with the same 16-core 32-thread makeup as its predecessor and the same max boost of 5.7GHz. The only specification that is different at the moment is the Cache, which is now 80MB. AMD failed to mention or compare the new series against the 7000-series X3D SKUs, some of which are highly regarded for their performance but the way things look right now, we doubt it is worth upgrading a 3D-cache variant.
| CPU | Cores/ Threads | Speed (Max) | Cache | TDP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 9 9950X | 16/32 | 5.7GHz | 80MB | 170W |
| Ryzen 9 9900X | 12/24 | 5.6GHz | 76MB | 120W |
| Ryzen 7 9700X | 8/16 | 5.5GHz | 40MB | 65W |
| Ryzen 5 9600X | 6/12 | 5.4GHz | 38MB | 65W |
We have been lucky to see some fantastic CPU lineups from both AMD and Intel in recent years and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. The value for many, especially gamers appears to be slowly improving and as it stands there has never been a better time to get into the PC gaming market.
AMD Ryzen 9000 Series Prices
The prices of the much awaited Ryzen 9000 series CPUs have all but been confirmed, with many large retailers beginning to launch placeholder pages for the new products, as well as some retailers allowing customers to pre order the new CPUs.
Best Buy are one of the retailers who have added placeholder pages for each of the CPU SKUs, and below are the prices that they have confirmed.
- Ryzen 9600X – $279 – Best Buy
- Ryzen 9700X – $359 – Best Buy
- Ryzen 9900X – $449 – Best Buy
- Ryzen 9950X – $599 – Best Buy
Note: Best Buy have temporarily removed the product pages for the CPUs, however they will be going back live shortly.
You can also see the rich snippet data here on Google search engine which shows the price being taken from the Best Buy retailer when the product pages were live.

NewEgg also had pricing live on their website but have since taken it down and Google rich snippets do not currently show what it was, however the placeholder pages for the products is still live here.
AMD have yet to officially release the recommended retail prices for the new 9000 series range, however with more retailers using the same pricing, we expect this to be the official pricing at launch.
Various retailers have put product pages up for the new range of CPUs, including French retailer PC21.fr, however the pricing has changed since the page originally went live. As well as this, we have Filipino retailer Bermozone which suggests that the Ryzen 9900X would retailer for $599. However, we know from previous launches that Bermozone is typically inflated.
We’ve also seen multiple Ryzen 9000 CPU product pages appearing across Amazon Europe, in particular Amazon Germany, Amazon Netherlands and Amazon Spain both had product listing pages up. You can see in the image below, from Google that the cached page on Amazon Netherlands suggests the pricing for the Ryzen 9900X was going to be around 500 euros.

Amazon Netherlands product listing pages have reappeared, but this time without pricing.
- Ryzen 9600X – Amazon Netherlands
- Ryzen 9700X – Amazon Netherlands
- Ryzen 9900X – Amazon Netherlands
This pricing would convert to $550 US dollars and £430 GBP which is not too dissimilar to previously priced AMD CPU launches. For example, the 7900X when released was $549.
Amazon Canada has also launched product pages, unfortunately you can’t yet pre order but the placeholder pages are live, ready to go when they launch.
- Ryzen 9600X – Amazon Canada
- Ryzen 9700X – Amazon Canada
- Ryzen 9900X – Amazon Canada
- Ryzen 9950X – Amazon Canada
