AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900X will officially release today, set for a 10:00am EST/ 14:00pm GMT launch – if all goes to plan.
On the 24th July AMD announced that the Ryzen 9000 series had been delayed due to quality control issues, the launch will now take place in August and split into two release dates with two CPUs being launched on each date. The first set of 9000-series CPUs has already ‘successfully’ launched, and we now wait for the Ryzen 9 9900X to follow.

The Ryzen 9900X will be released on Thursday, 15th August 2024 alongside the Ryzen 9950X.
Interestingly, AMD have decided to split the launch into two release dates, with the Ryzen 9600X and 9700X launching on the 8th August and the Ryzen 9900X and 9950X launching on the 15th August. It marks one of the few times that AMD has decided to do this and still seems a strange move when all things are considered.
In terms of the launch time on the day, typically AMD CPUs are released at 9am EST / 2PM GMT / 6AM PST.

The Ryzen 9900X has the same amount of cores and threads as the previous generation Ryzen 7900X, and early while early benchmarks showcase a small uplift in performance, generational gains isn’t as exciting as we’d first thought.
That being said, some reviewers did see a decent uplift in multithreaded workflows, cementing the claims that this CPU is very much aimed towards productivity type situations – leaving the X3D to the gamers.
Ryzen 9900X Price confirmed
There were a bunch of rumours surrounding the 9900X’s price before launch, with some text chain covered by some major news publications stating stupidly low prices.
Since then, AMD has officially announced the pricing of the chips, and the Ryzen 9 9900X will launch for $499 – around $50 cheaper than its predecessor on launch.
