AMD’s CEO has confirmed that the next-gen RDNA 4 GPUs will launch in early 2025. They will feature faster ray tracing and enhanced AI capabilities.

During its Q3 2024 earnings call, AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, announced that the company is advancing towards the next-gen Radeon GPU family based on the RDNA 4 architecture. AMD plans to launch these RDNA 4 GPUs by early 2025, which aligns with earlier leaks from Zhongzhou suggesting a CES 2025 showcase. These next-gen GPUs are said to offer significantly faster ray tracing performance and come with advanced AI capabilities.

In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year-over-year as we prepare for a transition to our next-gen Radeon GPUs based on our RDNA 4 architecture. In addition to a strong increase in gaming performance, RDNA 4 delivers significantly higher ray tracing performance and adds new AI capabilities.

AMD RDNA 4 Navi 48 and Navi 44 GPUs are expected to feature at least two SKUs

AMD’s RDNA 4 graphics architecture has already seen a preview with its custom SoC for the PS5 Pro, delivering 45% faster ray tracing performance and featuring PSSR AI upscaling. Unlike competitors’ upscaling technologies, Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS, which leverage tensor cores for AI processing, AMD has relied on traditional methods for image upscaling. While AMD has been updating its FSR and Fluid Motion Frames models with AI, these upcoming AI capabilities could significantly enhance AMD’s upscaling game, resulting in better and more stable image quality.

Previous rumours indicate that AMD is planning just two chips for the RDNA 4 family: the Navi 48 and Navi 44. While we’ve seen speculation about packaging size differences for these new chips, Wccftech has also confirmed that both will feature GDDR6 memory with speeds of up to 20 Gbps and are expected to come with at least two SKUs each.

  • Navi 48 SKU #1 – R24D-E8
  • Navi 48 SKU #2 – R24D-E6
  • Navi 44 SKU #1 – R25D-P8
  • Navi 44 SKU #2 – R25D-P4

With Intel’s Arc Battlemage GPUs and Nvidia’s Blackwell RTX 50 series on the horizon, it will be interesting to see where AMD’s improved ray tracing and AI capabilities position themselves.
