Now that watchOS 10 beta 1 kicked it all off on June 5th, what & when is the next beta? Apple tend to follow a strict release schedule for both their devices (like the iPhone) and their major software updates, which means that any predictions can be pretty spot on.

If you want to get the very latest watchOS 10 beta, you’ll have to check out the Apple Developer Program. The 9th developer beta should be available in the next week, with Apple watchOS 10 beta 9 likely to arrive in early-mid September. Last year, we saw watchOS 9 follow a similar pattern of new beta versions around every two weeks up until August, when it switched to a weekly schedule. We have generally seen the betas release on a Wednesday or Tuesday, but the latter is more common right now.

Ever since Apple released the first watchOS 10 beta at WWDC, we’ve been tracking the latest releases as much as we can. Beta 8 was released just a week after beta 7, arriving on August 29th. This official update can tell you more about it.

Generally speaking, the beta releases act as a great platform to address any bugs and issues with the plethora of watchOS 10 features which are making their way to your Apple Watch. This means you usually only expect minor tweaks and improvements to what we saw in previous betas, such as the widget stack, fitness app updates, and new watch faces – as well as charging and battery optimizations. However, beta 4 did does actually provide a new feature – the Optimized Charge Limit available on Apple Watch SE, or Series 6 and newer to improve the lifespan of your battery based on daily charging habits.

What is the latest watchOS public beta?

If you’re not a developer, you should instead learn about the watchOS public beta. Luckily, the first public beta arrived on July 12th, but the latest version is the sixth public beta, which arrived on August 29th, and it could very well be the final one. Developer betas arrived first back in June, and Apple followed up on their promise to begin public betas in July. We expect to see even more moving forward. Now the wider public can access new features such as the Smart Stack, new Watch Faces, and plenty of updates to the native apps.

In fact, these beta versions are all about smaller updates and bug fixes to ensure the brand-new features are working as intended. Previously, one of the biggest rumors and leaks is related to the watchOS 10 user interface, with a new interface to look forward to. As well as a strong focus on widgets, according to the ever-trustworthy MacRumors – that was courtesy of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman – something similar to the previous Glances view.

• Redesigned interface – more information at a glance, easier navigation and the Smart Stack for quick access on the watch face
• New watch faces – this is something we see regularly; watchOS 10 now introduces the Palette and Snoopy watch faces. These animated faces change depending on the time of day, weather, or even when you’re working out.
• Better support for cycling – optimized viewing for Custom Workouts, Cycling Speed, Elevation, Heart Rate Zones, and Race Route. Apple Watch now also connects automatically to both outdoor and indoor Bluetooth cycling accessories.
• Updated Compass app which can track when you last had cellular connection and emergency waypoints.
• Support for tracking mental health and finding contributing factors such as lifestyle, sleep, or exercise.
• Tracking for vision health. In other words, monitoring the amount of time spent in daylight to reduce risk of Myopia, especially in children.

Early reports said there will be more focus on upgrading watchOS compared to this year’s hardware. Especially with other big hardware projects such as the Apple Reality Pro and even Apple electric car in the pipeline spreading Apple’s focus thin.
