If you own certain AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics cards, a long-awaited firmware update was recently announced by ASUS and AMD.
This new BIOS update will unlock faster memory speeds which will see the GDDR6 memory jump from 12 Gbps to 14 Gbps.
AMD Vs. Nvidia Confusion
There has been a lot of confusion lately over the new RX 5600 XT cards and this BIOS update. AMD has been going head to head with Nvidia and their GeForce RTX 2060 – which Nvidia recently dropped the price of in order to compete with AMD.
This move appeared to have caused AMD to launch a last-minute BIOS update. However, plenty of 5600 XT graphics cards were shipped before this update was applied and that means that some users have been waiting a long time for this update to apply to them too.
It also means that it has been up to the hardware partners (such as ASUS) to make this BIOS update available for customers. The whole thing has been a bit confusing and frustrating to say the least.
ASUS Update Now Available
However, certain RX 5600 XT card owners will now be able to finally update their BIOS. ASUS cards including the ASUS TUF Gaming X3 Radeon RX 5600 XT Evo and the ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 5600 XT cards should now have BIOS updates available.
To access the new BIOS revision all you need to do is follow those links and they will take you to ASUS’ website where you can learn more.
However, a word of caution – updating BIOS can be simple yet complicated and will depend on your graphics card specifications and a number of factors. Luckily, ASUS has put together a detailed guide to help you determine your specs.
