If you’re looking to upgrade your laptop setup, Asus has an exciting new announcement for you.
Portable displays have been around for a while now, but they are really starting to pick up some popularity as of late. However, so far, many of these portable displays haven’t exactly been built with gamers in mind.
Asus’ attempt to close this gap in the market is with their brand new ROG Strix XG17AHPE. This is an impressive 17.3-inch portable display, featuring a 240 Hz refresh rate.
Asus’ XG17 was first announced during Computex last year, but we haven’t heard much about the monitor since then. However, Asus has recently put up a product page and a list of specifications.
Asus XG17 Specs
Monitor size: 17.3 inches
Resolution: 1920 x 1080p
Refresh rate: 240 Hz
Response time: 3ms
Panel type: IPS
Colour saturation: 100% sRGB
Brightness: 300 nits
Contrast: 1,000:1
Speakers: 1W stereo x2
Embedded battery: 3,700 Ah
Battery life: 3.5 hours at 240 Hz
It looks like Asus has taken some of the core specifications of the best gaming monitors on the market and tried to fit them in a smaller, more convenient package.
In terms of connectivity, the monitor features a micro HDMI 2.0 port, a USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Interestingly, a DisplayPort input is missing, which could be an issue for anyone who was expecting it for their new laptop setup.
Could This Mean A New Market For Portable Gaming Monitors?
MSI is also working towards developing a portable monitor for gamers, so Asus isn’t without competition. If MSI and Asus see success in this niche market, it could mean other manufacturers start standing up and taking note, further expanding customer choice as more gaming monitors are released. We could end up seeing models from Samsung or Gigabyte if the market is lucrative enough.
Release Date And Cost Of The XG17
Unfortunately, the only information we have right now is from that product page that lists the specs. We aren’t sure how much it will end up costing or when it will be released. However, given Asus’ new product page, we expect it should be made available fairly soon.
As soon as we hear more news of when it becomes available, we will keep you updated. Is a portable gaming monitor something you have been looking for to complete your gaming laptop setup?
