The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE has just been announced by the powerhouse gaming laptop company as part of their For Those Who Dare: Boundless ROG launch event on May 17th 2022. This looks set to be the most powerful ASUS gaming laptop yet. Read below for all the latest information we have on this behemoth of a machine.

The full list of ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE specs can be seen below. Of particular note is the 175W TGP RTX 3080 Ti laptop graphics card (which is on par with the 175W in the XMG Neo 15 E22), the hugely powerful Intel i9-12950HX CPU option (which has a max TDP of 65W) and the ‘Vapor chamber with Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal (which should bring) down CPU and GPU temperatures’, dramatically reducing thermal throttling. It’s not yet clear what the less powered GPU options will be, or if there will be cheaper options with a less powerful CPU.

There are also two display options, offering high refresh rates (360Hz at 1080p or 240Hz at 1440p), both reportedly having a 3ms fast response time (though we’ll have to wait and see how this holds up in independent testing) and in the case of the 1440p option, a claimed 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, which would make it ideal for color-based editing or other graphical workflows if true, as well as gaming.

• ASUS are also running an interactive campaign as part of their SCAR Runner FPS parkour game, which runs from May 17th – June 30th, 2022, in which giveaways of the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE can be won. There are apparently clues to aid in the completion of the game hidden on the chassis of the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE itself (we assume in the invisible ink). We’re not sure how people will be able to use these clues if they can’t actually get the laptop during this event, but it seems interesting.

Asus have confirmed that the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE starting price is £3,999.99, which would make the price in USD way over $4,000, even factoring in cheaper US pricing. Although ASUS ROG laptops are uniformly premium models with top-notch build quality, this is an obscene amount of money to pay for a gaming laptop, particularly as this is apparently not even the cost highest spec model.
