The RTX 4070 has been a ‘mid-range’ staple for many who bought into the RTX 40 series GPUs. And now, with the RTX 50 series on the horizon, it’s time to say goodbye to the base RTX 4070. A Chinese website named IT Home reports that the RTX 4070 will reach the end of life in January 2025 after one final restock. But that’s not all that’s affected; the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti are rumoured to follow suit in Q1 2025.
This news follows the announcement of the up-and-coming RTX 50 series GPUs, which are intended to replace the current-gen RTX 40 series. RTX 4070s have been hard to find for a while, especially in China, reports IT Home, as it’s arguably already been superseded by the RTX 4070 Super (which offers better value for money).

When will the 4070, 4060 & 4060 Ti go out of stock?
It is reported that all three GPUs will get one final re-stock this month, but with the scarcity of the RTX 4070, it’s not slated to last longer than the end of the month. The RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti are expected to last a few more weeks in stock. Once this final re-stock is complete, it is rumoured that AIBs will not receive any more stock of chips.

It makes sense that the RTX 4070 is the first to go, as it has been superseded for a while by the 4070 Super, Ti, and Ti Super. However, the 4060 and 4060 Ti remain fairly popular options, as they have rapidly climbed the Steam Hardware charts over the last year or so. As of yet, no alternative has been announced for the 50 series. Maybe this was done to encourage those to purchase a higher-end GPU rather than wait for a 50-series equivalent.
There’s no word yet on when the higher-end variants of the RTX 4070 will reach the end of life. It will likely be when Nvidia launches the planned 5070 models sometime in February.
