Activision has confirmed that in 2022 we will be getting not only Modern Warfare 2 but Warzone 2 as well.
As we anticipated earlier, the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare (and we know it is tricky to keep up with the modern CoD naming conventions and we will get our grubby mitts on it before the end of the year. We would anticipate around the end of October if recent releases fall in line.
Superstar studio Infinity Ward will be holding the reigns for both MW2 and Warzone 2, which will provide comfort for any CoD fans who have been concerned by the recent dev merry-go-round when it comes to working on the franchise.
Beyond actual confirmation of the titles, details were ultra-sketchy at best and non-existent at worst. In much the same way, and almost as if to rival the “oh by the way” approach of the recent GTA 6 announcement the news came by way of a throwaway paragraph in the latest Call of Duty blog.
Leading with “Lastly, we also wanted to give a peek into what is on the horizon in 2022 for Call of Duty. The team is excited to confirm some additional news below.”
The notes continue:
– This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to Modern Warfare® 2019.
– The new game and a new Warzone experience are designed together from the ground-up.
– Expect a massive evolution of Battle Royale with all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode.
– A new engine powers both the new Call of Duty game release and Warzone.
– Development on both the new Call of Duty and the Warzone experience is being led by Infinity Ward.
