Now we have the official confirmation of the sequel to the reboot of the 2019 Call of Duty Modern Warfare – hang on, reading hat back even I am not sure it makes total sense, help me out Activision – people are eager to know when we can expect the jump into Infinity Ward’s next iteration of one of the world’s most popular game franchises. So what do we know at this early stage? Let’s have a peek.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date

It is possible at this stage of development that the game could end up with a slightly different name but we think that unlikely right now. The only solid info we have on the game regarding its moniker is “This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to Modern Warfare® 2019” So, while it is likely all we will get is the addition of the number 2 in a suitably futuristic font, Activision (and indeed Microsoft these days) could flex a little more marketing invention to shake things up a little.

In terms of timelines of when we can expect the game, again, Activision has given us but the tiniest carrot to chomp on at this stage, promising it will be with us “before the end of 2022”.

Given that we got Vanguard on 5th November last year we are sticking our neck out and assuming they will be working to at least a similar timeline in order to provide maximum sales in the run-up to the holidays.

We got our hands-on review copies a couple of weeks in advance of that date so again we would like to think by the middle of October we will have a good idea of what Infinity Ward has produced.

With that in mind, we can probably expect to start seeing trailers and gameplay by the middle of the year and the first batch of highly-curated action screenshots ahead of that.
