Our favourite little bandicoot and purple dragon are now in the great talons of the multi million dollar company, Microsoft. After Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, so did they also acquire a whole assortment of Activision owned characters and domains. Considering the popularity of these two classic former PlayStation mascots, it’s worth us putting a finger to our chin and giving it a thorough scratch as we wonder what is the future of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro?

Firstly, there’s no reason to worry about Microsoft abandoning these two franchises. Their classic remakes were widely popular, with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (2020) having the highest first-month earnings for a contemporary Crash Bandicoot title, topped sales charts in some territories, and was nominated for four awards. And the Spyro Reignited Trilogy receiving multiple awards and doing commercially well. Both of these franchises are owned and published by Activision, but now they’ll be under Microsoft. And considering the larger company’s slightly bigger wallet, there’s no reason for them to burn bridges with these two franchises.

Crash and Spryo Xbox Exclusives?

With Microsoft now owning Activision, it does start to stir the gaming community. Will some Activision franchises now only be Xbox Exclusives? Or will they continue to exist on their respective platforms? As it’s very early in this acquisition, there’s not really been any further details about what Microsoft’s plans are. You’re not alone in worrying, considering Crash and Spyro were PlayStation mascots back in their days, it’s strange to think they might become an Xbox exclusive franchise.

Either way, only time will tell. For the time being, we can’t make any assumptions, but a silver lining? If they do indeed become Xbox exclusives, that’ll only be for future games. You won’t need to worry about any of the older games being pulled for the PS store. And nowadays, ‘Xbox exclusive’ doesn’t quite mean it’s exclusive to the Xbox console. Rather it’ll be on the Xbox consoles and PC.

Regardless of what happens, the future of Crash and Spyro are to be seen…
