It seems that the Las Plagas bug has wriggled its way from the villagers and into the data of the Resident Evil 4 Remake because a bug is causing a massive soft lock for players going through the game. Bugs are not unheard of in new games. Plenty of people have experience bugs in recent games but the latest one in the Resident Evil 4 Remake has been preventing players from progressing after reaching chapter 12. Luckily, Capcom is aware of the issue and prepared a statement earlier today to warn players of the bug.

The warning was made on the official Resident Evil Twitter page where they let players know that the game in its current state contains a “critical progress bug” that “will only occur under very specific circumstances.” Luckily, you don’t need to worry about spoilers since Capcom was sure to avoid any mention of what Leon gets into during the chapter.

Specifically, there is a cutscene at the beginning of chapter 12. Once this cutscene ends, players will receive a key item that is needed to continue through the chapter. Those who attack with their knife immediately will get soft locked. Capcom has advised to wait until the notification for this key item has disappeared before brandishing your knife and assaulting any foes in the area or breaking open crates for treasure.

If you happen to attack before the notification disappears, there is a chance that the item won’t appear in your attaché case. If this happens, you can simply reload your save data and it should reset the game and break the soft lock. Since Capcom is aware of the issue, there is no doubt that they will fix it quickly in an upcoming patch for the game. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the upcoming mercenaries mode where you can test out many of the weapons the game has to offer.
