After GTA V, Civilization 6 Is Free This Week On Epic Game Store

Following on from last week (and what was the most high profile giveaway to date in the form of Grand Theft Auto V), the Epic Game Store is giving away Fixaxis Games’ excellent Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 for free this week only.

While Civilization 6 indeed drops down a notch in terms of the most popular games (then again only a handful of games can square to GTA V at the best of times), it’s nothing to scoff at by any stretch of the imagination. Civilization 6 is easily among the better games Epic has treated players to since launching its weekly giveaway bonanza back in late 2018.

Civilization 6 may be nearing its fourth birthday, but it still stands as one of the most complete turn-strategy games ever made with some impressive review scores to back that up. Additionally, Fixaxis has gone to lengths to ensure the game remains flooded with updates and DLC to this day, so not only is there tons of content, but it’s of a high standard.

As with any other Epic Games Store freebie, all you need to claim the game is to create an account on the storefront, head to the Civilization 6 listing on Epic’s storefront and claim it. Do note that Epic has recently implemented a little hoop-jumping to bolster the security of user accounts: 2FA is now mandatory if you fancy picking up one of the free games.

As for the all-important question of the cut off for claiming the game, Civilization 6 is free from now until next Thursday, May 28, at 11 am PT.

If a recently leaked screenshot of Epic’s freebie slate for the upcoming weeks is anything to go by, then there’s more to come. The leak suggests Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is next in line, followed up by Ark: Survival Evolved a mere week later. Not a bad lineup, especially considering they cost absolutely nothing.
