Clumsy Physics-based Spacefaring Sim Kerbal Space Program 2 Announced At Gamescom

A sequel to the popular zany space flight sim Kerbal Space Program is set to land in 2020 as announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event.

This time around developer Star Theory is the architect behind the futuristic antics of the Kerbals who, going by the trailer, have set their sights on even more ambitious goals and are set to blast off to new planets and galaxies, establish colonies, and if all goes well – it often doesn’t in Kerbal Space Program – lay down the foundations for civilizations that will stand the test of time.

From the trailer, it’s clear the bizarre mechanics of the original are returning and are sure to delight players as they attempt to reach the stars. In the original, success was always mitigated by the chance of abject failure as rockets plummeted unceremoniously to the ground, disintegrated mid-air, or simply failed to even lift off, and all to comedic effect.

Kerbal Space Program holds a special place in the hearts of many players in the same way as oddball titles like Gary’s Mod. There’s something distinctly satisfying about toying around with unpredictable physics and Kerbal Space Program 2 looks to scratch that very same itch.

It also looks incredible, and although viewing a highly polished cinematic trailer with a degree skepticism doesn’t go amiss, the little green aliens have never looked so good as they prepare to face the trials of space flight.

Kerbal Space Program 2 launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime in 2020.
