CSGO, after its 11+ year lifespan gets the send-off it deserves at the Paris Major. CSGO is coming to an end, making way for Counter Strike 2 this summer. There have been some insane CSGO majors over the course of its history, the first major ever in Sweden laid the foundation, 2015 Katowice featured peak NIP, Fnatic, and VP, or 2018 Boston where Cloud9 beat Faze to take it all stick firmly in the mind. Despite such an incredible history, the Blast TV finals have to be considered one of the best yet. For starters, albeit unsurprising, the odds-on favorites won in complete style, without dropping a single map all tournament. If that wasn’t enough, we had one of the best atmospheres ever seen, from a highly passionate, mostly French crowd. OK, some of the biggest teams in the world didn’t really show up, plus the unforgettable feats of 2014 and 2018 (to name a few) are never going to be surpassed, so you could be right in saying that invalidates such praise. However, the upsets and insane runs from the underdogs gave this tourney some surprising excitement for the impartial viewer.

Vitality, the number 1 team in the world made it look easy but what was especially great to see was the French players taking home the trophy at the French major. Vitality was up against one of said underdogs, GamerLegion who made light work of most opponents all the way through their run, however, the best team in the world, with arguably the best player in the world didn’t sweat a drop during their 2-0 victory.

That was the last major until 2024 which is a real shame, however, think of the hype behind that first CS2 tournament, it is going to be epic. Tier-1 Counter Strike has never looked so good, with mixed nationality teams doing the business on the big stage. We even had a British core exceeding all expectations at the event, a first-ever. All this builds into a crescendo we can’t wait to see. We need Counter Strike 2 to release now to satisfy the post-major blues but Paris you were incredible and truly set the bar for CS going forward.
