The latest major update for the extreme zombie survival DayZ has just been released, available right now on Steam. This update brings a whole host of fixes, lots of new cooking related items, and functionality, plus a brand new Ski Resort location.
The new cooking options include cooking slots on indoor and outdoor stoves, so you can directly place pots, pans, and food items directly into the stove. You can now also use cooking equipment on a lit fireplace. They’ve also added a new Frying Pan item that can be used either as a melee weapon or for cooking, depending on your mood.
The abandoned Saint Roman ski resort has been added to the Chernarus map, with a ski lift and ski lodge. It’s seen better days and doesn’t look like an attractive tourist attraction in its current state, but it makes an interesting spot to hide from the shambling undead.
There’s also a new gun added to the game, in the form of the Sporter 22 Rifle, which you can attach a scope to for improved accuracy at range.
The fixes are a big laundry list of bugs, improved mechanics, and UX changes, which you can read in full detail over on the patch notes, posted to the DayZ forums.
DayZ is currently part of the Steam sale, with a 40% discount, so this is a great time to jump in if you’ve not tried it yet. It’s great to see a game continue to get this kind of support long after release.
