Kojima Productions Releases New Death Stranding Story Trailer At Tokyo Game Show

Kojima Productions has released a new trailer for Hideo Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding – the very same one shown to select members of the gaming press behind closed doors at Gamescom.

Death Stranding Tokyo Game Show Trailer

Unlike previous teasers, the ‘Briefing’ trailer as its aptly named, takes on a far more familiar formula, setting aside the esoteric exposition we’ve grown accustomed to up to now. It’s akin to a more traditional trailer and does well to lay the foundations for the story that drives Death Stranding.

The trailer unveils exactly the motivation behind the protagonist Sam’s epic quest. America is a fractured state of United Cities that need reconnecting, or humanity is doomed. Heavy stuff.

Amelie, a de facto president of sorts, needs saving after being kidnapped by a militant separatist group known as Homo Demens while traveling West to reconnect the various isolated communities scattered across the land.

The ruthless and pillaging Homo Demens are using Amelie as an insurance policy to remain independent from the United Cities of America. They are the game’s main villains and alongside the specter-like BTs that populate the land, and are the main obstacle to Sam’s progress.

Sam must travel West to finish Amelie’s work and link chiral network terminals (communication nods) together into a web sweeping across America. Once online, Amelie can then continue her work to reunite the country.

What We Learned

With a running time of just over seven minutes, the trailer offers much-needed insight into Death Stranding underlying drivers and is well worth a watch. Kojima has, however, stated that he would prefer players to go in blind, so watch at your discretion as it has many of the qualities of a spoiler. If you’re not sold on the whole Death Stranding hype, the trailer will get you up to speed on what to expect.

Death Stranding launches on November 8th for PlayStation 4.
