Devolver Digital Plans To Host E3-Replacement Showcase In Mid-July

Joyfully wacky indie publisher Devolver Digital has announced that it is planning to host an E3-replacement digital event in July.

While many have certainly felt the impact of E3’s cancellation this year, publishers and platform holders have jumped in to conjure up alternative events to tide over gamers hungry for their habitual early summer hit of gaming news. Among these was one notable exception – Devolver Digital.

The indie publisher holds a special place in the heart of many an E3 fan for its surreal and comedically-infused showcases. These are as much filled with gaming news and announcements as goofy, imaginative segments.

Compiled, they weave a narrative, a kind of lore teeming with zombies, twist and turns, and more than a few surprises. It’s refreshing levity from the over-stylized, constrictive, and carefully choreographed big-publisher broadcasts.

Devolver’s absence from this year’s slate of digital alternatives felt like we were missing out on one of E3’s best moments.

Yet, that’s no longer the case. Taking to Twitter late yesterday, the publisher revealed it is working hard to produce a Devolver Digital 2020 broadcast that will air sometime in mid-July if everything goes to plan.

Devolver explained, ‘Devolver Direct 2020 will be mid-July if all goes well with production. This year will have some updates + release dates on upcoming games and a couple of new games to reveal – all with gameplay. Can’t wait to share more soon!’

So, that’s a raft of games, news, and announcements from some of the most exciting independent developers in the industry, and, if history serves as any measure of what to expect, Devolver’s truly memorable brand of bizarre showmanship. Oh, and hopefully, the return of Nina Struthers.

There’s no firm date right now other than a vague mid-July, but we imagine Devolver will ramp up the marketing once it feels confident everything is on track.
