Dads love tech, don’t they? Not only does it enhance their gaming experience in the mancave, but it gives them an opportunity to flex on all the rival dads in the neighborhood. But what if his audio game isn’t up to scratch? Well, luckily, Best Buy has decided to reduce the Sony HT-G700 soundbar by a huge $200. That reduces this great soundbar and subwoofer combo to only $399.99. So, let’s have a look at exactly what you’re getting for your money

Despite the diminutive price, the Sony HT-G700 boasts some fantastic specs, and has some killer feature’s that will no doubt enhance your dad’s audio experience, be it a living room TV, or a mancave gaming setup.

  • Connectivity: Optical, HDMI (input & output), Bluetooth 5.0, Optical, USB
  • Dimensions: 980 x 64 x 108mm
  • Weight: 3.5kg
  • Max output: 400W
  • Virtual surround sound: Yes (with Dolby Atmos)
  • Surround sound configuration: 3.1, with a separate subwoofer
  • Includes remote

The specs speak for themselves, but what we really like about the Sont HT-G700 is the perfect balance between performance and convenience. You don’t have to individually power, cable manage, and set up 8 different modules. Just plug the soundbar into the TV or other device, connect the subwoofer, and turn it on. It will then calibrate itself and be good to go.

After this, you can of course mess with the settings to dial it into your specific individual preferences, but that’s what we like about soundbars in general, pure ease of use. Yes, you don’t get true surround sound or any of the pro-grade home theatre stuff, but unless you’re a cinephile/audiophile, you won’t need that stuff. Given the current discount on the Sony HT-G700, it’s an unbeatable value-for-money proposition for the Dad who needs an audio upgrade but doesn’t have the time to fiddle with 8 different speaker modules or walk around to manual room correction.
