If you have an Ubisoft Connect account (nee Uplay), you can login right now and claim a copy of Far Cry 3 for free. That’s zero bucks! Be quick though, because come September 10 at 11:30 PDT / September 11 at 2:30am EDT (7:30am for our UK friends), the offer to have one of the greatest open-world shooters freely added to your game collection will be withdrawn. Unless you want to pay for it, that is.

Far Cry 3 was the (spoiler alert) third in the Far Cry series, and for many people – the WePC collective among them – it is considered the best of the lot. Set across the fictional Rook Islands, it had players take the role of SoCal bro-dude Jason Brody, as he set out to rescue his frat house chums from the evil clutches of sadistic psych-bro-path Vaas Montenegro (the series’ second-best bad guy after Pagan Min). This was typically achieved by slaughtering the local population, be they animal, vegetable, or henchperson. Think Dude, Where’s My Car? meets Apocalypse Now.

If you’ve yet to sample a Far Cry game, then you have no excuse not to claim your free copy of Far Cry 3, which should keep you busy until the next in the series comes along. Far Cry 6, starring Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito – who looks certain to take the best Far Cry Villain crown – will be released October 7. Sadly, that one will cost money.

Your free Far Cry 3 on PC is waiting for you. Go!
