With the RTX 5080 supposedly lacking in performance, NVIDIA might be changing that as memory changes with the RTX 5080 get leaked along with rumored specifications for the RTX 5070.
According to previous leaks by Kopite7kimi, we saw leaked specifications for the upcoming RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. In those tweets, one thing that stood out was the fact that the RTX 5080 featured almost half the cores than the RTX 5090 along with a slower memory speeds. While there don’t seem to be any changes in terms of the CUDA cores, Wccftech sources suggest a potential increase in the memory speed which would result in higher bandwidth reaching similar levels as the RTX 4090.

RTX 5080 might feature similar bandwidth as the current flagship RTX 4090
According to Wccftech, the RTX 5080 will have 32 Gbps chips instead of the previously rumored 28 Gbps. Since the card is supposedly using the GB203-400 GPU, it is limited to a 256-bit memory bus, resulting in a much lower bandwidth (896 GB/s) compared to the RTX 5090. However, if the rumors turn out to be true, this 4 Gbps memory change would also result in a higher bandwidth. With a 4 Gbps faster memory, the RTX 5080 will have a maximum bandwidth of 1024 GB/s, surpassing that of the 384-bit 4090, which is 1008 GB/s.
Additionally, Kopite7kimi claimed that the RTX 5080, despite having nearly 5,600 fewer cores than the 4090, is reportedly 10% faster. However, it’s unclear whether this applies to raster or ray-traced performance. So, if we put all the pieces together, it seems like the RTX 5080 despite all the odds will be faster and more power efficient than the RTX 4090.
RTX 5070 comes to light with rumored specifications indicating only 12 GB VRAM
Wccftech has also shared updates on the third RTX 50 model, the RTX 5070, which NVIDIA may tease alongside the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 at CES 2025, with a potential launch later sometime. The latest updates give us initial rumored specifications for the RTX 5070 which is said to feature GB205 GPU, not GB203 as the 5080 model. This also suggests that the potential “RTX 5080 Super” will have to feature the GB202 GPU to have more cores.

The GB205 GPU, which we might see with the RTX 5070, will have up to 50 SMs or 6400 cores. Additionally, the card will also have a 192-bit bus interface with 12 GB of memory, similar to the existing 12 GB RTX 4070 (192-bit). The card will offer memory speeds of 28 Gbps, resulting in a total bandwidth of up to 672 GB/s – a 33% increase compared to the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 SUPER GPUs. Additionally, this variant will have a total board power (TBP) of 250W, a 14% increase over the RTX 4070 SUPER’s 220W.
The rumored specs for the RTX 5070 indicate a much similar configuration as the RTX 4070 with just a few changes in terms of cores. So, we might either get to see this exact configuration with the RTX 5070 or maybe lower cores than the RTX 4070. NVIDIA is expected to unveil the new RTX 50 series at CES with Jensen Huang hosting the keynote himself.
