So is the Google Pixel 7a now released? Read below for the Google Pixel 7a release date, price & specs based on the latest official announcements, rumors, and information. Google’s Pixel smartphones have made a notable impact on the Android world, and as much as the flagship devices, the budget A-range has proven very popular. It’s also time to talk about the price and specs of the Pixel 7a.

Hence, the speculation around Google’s next budget smartphone, the Google Pixel 7a (the budget variant of the Google Pixel 7 series released in 2022), has been shaking the internet for a while now.

The Google Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Google Pixel Tablet have been announced during the Google I/O event on May 10th. Last year’s Pixel 6a proved to be one of the best budget smartphones that carried a few wow factors from the Pixel flagships while keeping the price at bay by cutting a few corners. So, the expectations surrounding the Pixel 7a were high.

Google Pixel 7a release date – out now

*UPDATE* During the Google I/O event on May 10th, the Pixel 7a was officially revealed. This acted as a launch event for the Pixel 7a, as the device is now available to buy on Amazon.

Google India posted a teaser on Twitter. Revealing a blurred image of a phone, reading ‘the latest phone engineered by Google’. We expect this to mean the Pixel 7a, with a launch date in India scheduled for May 11th.

This was the first time that Google officially announced a release date for the Google Pixel 7a. Google tends to launch products twice a year around May and October.

*Our previous prediction* We are taking a punt on the announcement at the very least of the Pixel 7a phone around May 10th, 2023. This is because Google tends to announce their newest hardware during the Google I/O event. This year, the event falls on May 10th, so there are plenty of expectations towards them for a big reveal. When it comes to release date, it’s possible that we’ll see a July release date, much like the Pixel 6a.

Google Pixel A-series release date history

The Pixel A-series has had a mixed bag of historic release dates:

  • Google Pixel 3a release date: May 2019
  • Google Pixel 4a release date: August 2020
  • Google Pixel 4a 5G release date: October 2020
  • Google Pixel 5a 5G release date: August 2021
  • Google Pixel 6a release date: July 2022

We hope this has helped you get a better idea of the Google Pixel A-series release schedule Do be sure to have a look at our various other phone guides whilst you’re here.

Can I pre order the Google Pixel 7a?

There is no need to pre-order the Google Pixel 7a, as it was immediately released. You can see this on Amazon, or the official Google store. That’s following the big Google I/O event which provided us with everything we need to know about the latest a-series phone in the Google Pixel range.

Google Pixel 7a price : how much will the Google Pixel 7a cost?

*UPDATE* The Google Pixel 7a was announced at Google I/O on May 10th, revealing that the price will start at $499. This is $50 more expensive than the last couple of generations.

*Older prediction* There is nothing official about the Pixel 7a price yet, so we’ll have to wait for that all-important Google I/O event on May 10th. In the meantime, we can look back to how the price differed in previous models and make an educated guess from there.

  • Google Pixel 6a : $449 / Google Pixel 6 : $599
  • Google Pixel 5a : $449 / Google Pixel 5 : $699
  • Google Pixel 4a : $349 / Google Pixel 4 : $799
  • Google Pixel 3a : $399 / Google Pixel 3 : $799

While the prices of the A-series grew over time, the base Pixel phone has actually fallen, but this is due to the Pixel Pro series providing a high-end version to help lower the price of the base model. So with that in mind, we can see that the previous Pixel generation has a $150 gap between them. Since the Pixel 7 also released at $599, we may actually see similar pricing for the Google Pixel 7a at $449.

Other reports do mention that the Pixel 7a is likely to cost around $499.

Google Pixel 7a Google I/O event news

The Google Pixel 7a is expected to appear at the Google I/O event on May 10th, so what more do we know about the event? Well, the 7a looks to be one of the best budget smartphones of the year and Google should be revealing it at the big event.

For 2023, Google I/O will be taking place over just a single day, so there’s going to be a lot to pack in. We’re also going to be hearing more about the latest version of Android – which the Pixel 7a will undoubtedly be able to take advantage of. The Pixel Fold is also another interesting piece of hardware many will be looking forward to at Google I/O.

Google Pixel 7a latest leaks and rumors

The rumour mill is certainly spinning around the Google Pixel 7a, especially when it comes to its features. Recently, leaker SnoopyTech shared what appeared to be images of the Pixel 7a, which showed some of the phone’s menus and what appeared to be options for ‘Face and Fingerprint unlock’. While this wouldn’t be too farfetched, we’d advise taking any alleged images with a pinch of salt.

Google Pixel 7a design

The design of the Google Pixel 7a is definitely looking to be an interesting one. First of all, early leaks reveal that the 7a is somewhat of a fusion between the 6a and the newest Google Pixel 7 phone – bringing the style up to match the latest generation. Nothing surprising there, and we compare the 7 series just below if you want to see more.

There have been leaked renders showing off the Google Pixel 7a in a new color though, as GSMArena reports. The brand-new color is yet to be officially named, but we do like the look of the orange tint.

*UPDATE* This leak turned out to be complete correct. The render below is exactly what we now see officially revealed by Google themselves, there are also other multiple colors included on release. Coral (seen below), Sea, Charcoal, and Snow.

Google Pixel 7a vs Pixel 7

Since the full specs are released, we can do a quick comparison of the two models. First things first, the screen size. The 7a display measures at 6.1″ compared to the 6.3″ of the Pixel 7. Both displays feature a smooth FHD+ display of up to 90Hz. The rear camera is the same too – dual setup with wide and ultrawide lens. You’ll need to upgrade to Pro to get a triple camera setup.

All three of the Pixel 7 phones (7, 7a Pro) use the Google Tensor G2 processor, so no changes there. Despite earlier predictions that the 7a would be sitting at 6GB RAM, it has actually released with 8GB – the same as the base Pixel 7 model.

Some of the key changes are to the battery and charging. The 7a actually has an slightly upgraded 4385 mAh battery, but lacks the fast wireless charging and Battery Share features.

The Google Pixel 7a is (perhaps unsurprisingly) a mashup between the previous 6a and Pixel 7. We see the metallic bar around the camera much like the Pixel 7, though in a noticeably more budget build quality and smaller dimensions – just like we saw on the Google Pixel 6a.

Google Pixel 7a release date FAQs

Is the Pixel 7 series worth buying?

Google’s Pixel series devices went through an uneven journey. Google made a few mistakes down the road, but it seems like they are catching up. So, the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro are worth buying.

Google came up with a unique design for its Pixel series device in the 6 series and refined it in the 7 series. The devices look better than ever. They also have excellent performance thanks to the second-generation Tensor chip. Last but not least the camera. Pixel devices were always known for their excellent cameras; somehow, Google made it better with the Pixel 7.

Is Pixel 7a waterproof?

Frankly, there aren’t any water-proof smartphones. At best, they can be water-resistant to a certain degree, and Pixel 7 is water-resistant. The 7a is expected to be the same.
