3dcenter has once again collated the price figures for AMD and Nvidia cards in Germany and Austria. They show a trend of GPU prices falling, with the pricing reaching a 14 month low, AMD cards being the real winners. Reported on the 13th of February, AMD graphics cards were 145% above MSRP on average. The lowest average since January 2021 when they averaged 142% above average. The slope continues to drop after several months which we hope will continue through the rest of the year. As this has been a time when graphics cards have been so expensive.

Why are GPU prices falling
One likely cause of the decrease in price will be the recent cryptocurrency crash. Shown as the yellow line in the graph, Ethereum recently peaked in market cap in November. Whereas, at the end of January had dropped drastically. Peaking at around £3,600 ($4,800) in November, compared to £1,870 ($2,425) more recently. The lowered price, cutting profits for crypto miners tend to make them not want to continue. And tend to try to cut their losses by selling off their equipment or holding off buying any more.

3dcenter also shows the availability of the graphics cards with the dotted line. With plenty more releases in the past year, manufacturers have also managed to increase the supply of SKUs and quantities. Along with the soon Ethereum switch to proof of stake which will move away from graphics cards and make them move away from snatching up all the card stock.
What this hopefully means is the prices will continue to decrease through the rest of the year. So that maybe they will finally be selling at their MSRP as even at their lowest their still 145% above. With the release of the new Intel platform, GPUs, and AMD socket coming end of the year, many people will be looking to upgrade. All of which should help to alleviate the stresses on newer components with much more choice and give gamers a final freedom
