343 Industries is continuing its tradition of creating the most competitive experience possible within its games. With the launch of Halo Infinite, a lot of players were unhappy with the ranked mode in the game. The Oddball game mode in particular felt like it did not have any comeback mechanics and the team that took the lead had a clear advantage.

With the new update, if the score is tied when a round’s timer runs out, one minute is added back to the timer. If the score is tied at the end of the additional minute, then the round will be declared a tie. Matches will end if two separate rounds end in a tie and the victory will go to the team with more rounds won.

What to Expect From Halo Infinite’s February Update

There are a number of tweaks to game modes to improve casual and ranked gameplay. In addition to the competitive changes, there are also a few bug fixes to address common issues. In Custom Games, changes to Free-For-All Slayer, FFA Oddball, Neutral Flag and Tactical Slayer game options update correctly and no longer have settings errors.

Halo Infinite February 3 Update Patch Notes

  • Matchmaking service improvements for Big Team Battle (BTB). Players should find full matches quicker and more consistently.
  • Scorpion Tanks and Wraiths will appear more frequently on BTB maps.
  • Fireteam members in BTB matches will have the selected Fireteam Marker color, but may still start the match in different areas of the map.

The changes to Big Team Battle’s matchmaking service are very noticeable with lobbies being formed very quickly. To check out the full list of changes, click here for the official patch notes.
