Idris Elba says Knuckles won’t be sexy in Sonic 2

Idris Elba has done an interview with film website ScreenRant, and the actor has finally opened up a little bit on his upcoming performance as Knuckles the Echidna in highly anticipated video game adaptation Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
When asked how his history of playing suave British rogues would influence his portrayal of Knuckles the Echidna, Elba told ScreenRant “Honestly, I cannot say. Contractually, I cannot say anything. But I wouldn’t say he was sexy. I don’t think I’m going for that. That’s for sure.”
We’re sure that certain sections of both the Sonic and Elba fandoms are devastated, or will disagree with the British actor and consider him to be a hottie anyway.
Who is Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog?
Knuckles the Echidna is the last surviving member of the powerful Echidna Tribe, who were destroyed when their chieftain and warlord Pachacamac attacked an island that was protected by Chaos, God of Destruction.
Pachacamac did his attack in an attempt to seize powerful mystical objects called Chaos Emeralds, but his people ultimately met with a cruel fate when they did not consider the island’s Chao inhabitants. The harm done to the Chao incurred the wrath of the powerful water-based creature that had the power to destroy an entire civilization.
It is unexplained why Knuckles now lives alone on Angel Island protecting the Master Emerald, but the red guardian is often dragged into the events of Sonic the Hedgehog games when Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik or another shady character tries to interfere with his protectorate duty.
Things may be different in the new film, as the Echidna Tribe were still around at the start of the previous film. The Echidnas hunted after Sonic and Longclaw when Sonic was only a baby, causing the Hedgehog to flee to another dimension and grow up in secret on Earth. Knuckles is often tricked into fighting Sonic by Dr. Eggman, so that still seems likely to happen in the next film.
We’re way past excited to see Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which releases in movie theaters on April 8, 2022.
