Long-time fans of PlayStation’s iconic “inFamous” franchise might be in for a treat at this year’s PlayStation Showcase event taking place September 9. The long-dormant franchise has recently had its web domain updated over a year before it was scheduled to expire

This has led many fans to speculate that the exclusive and much-loved inFamous franchise will return with a long-awaited fourth instalment on the PS5. At time of writing Sony has yet to comment on the rumour, as expected this has only served to excite fans further.

Reliable industry insider, Nick Baker @Shpeshal_Nick was unable to confirm the rumour, but he has a fairly excellent track record with leaks so a cautious amount of hope is recommended.

inFamous Game Rumoured To Appear At PS Showcase

The Developers of the inFamous franchise, Sucker Punch Productions last released an entry in the franchise over 7 years ago, with inFamous: Second Son. This entry was met with a lukewarm critical reception. However their next title, Ghosts of Tsushima was met with far more favourable praise. If the development of the rumoured fourth inFamous instalment remains with Sucker Punch, gamers will surely be happy with the news.

Another thing to note is the current expansion of Sucker Punch’s studios, their website lists many new job openings. All of which reference work on a new game. This could mean that the unconfirmed inFamous game might be developed in parallel with a Ghost of Tsushima sequel.

Will inFamous Be Cross Platform

Gamers may be concerned with Sony’s recent habit of adding a $10 dollar upgrade fee to their first party developer releases on PS4 for next gen performance enhancements on the PS5. This can’t be ruled out at this point so it’s something to watch out for if the rumour rings true.

Given that the showcase is only days away, we’ll be sure to have answers for you soon.
