Igor’s lab reports that the Intel ARC Alchemist GPU release date is likely to be sometime in May. Specifically stating that the consistent rumors place the release date as somewhere between 2nd May and 1st June 2022. We knew the cards were set to release in Q2 after confirmation from the Intel Graphics Twitter account. However, there was no specific date provided so the rumors provided are the best to go on.
The initial release is said to be for the high-end SKUs of the lineup with SKUs one to three. These performance models are likely to be based on the DG2-512 (SOC1), and there are at least two models expected. Not confirmed by Intel but they are likely to be the A780 and A580.
Why are the Intel ARC Alchemist GPUs delayed?
The Intel ARC Alchemist GPU release date has been pushed back likely due to Intel being keen on its entry into the GPU market to be as problem-free as possible. So likely polishing up the graphics drivers to work as flawlessly as possible when released to the public. So along with working with games, it also is working on its XeSS technology. This is Intel’s version of DLSS so these software challenges may be pushing back the release date.
The SOC1 lineup is also in direct competition to the low to mid-end of the current graphic card lineup. So competing against the RTX 3070 and Radeon 6700 XT or down to the RTX 3060 and RX 6500 XT. This means that the cards need to come in running to be able to compete with such established brands in the GPU market. Intel does have the advantage of already providing CPUs so can claw back any disadvantage with their software and direct link with unified hardware.
