Intel’s next-gen GPU rumors hint at impressive specs: A new rumor focusing on Intel’s next-gen Battlemage GPU has come to light, and it has detailed an incredibly fast Intel GPU. This “leak” is pretty in-depth as far as most leaks go, but whether this leak is made up, or holds true, remains to be seen.

Regardless, Intel should aim for the specifications described in this “leak” if it hopes to stay relevant in the GPU space.

Intel Battlemage Next-gen GPU leak

A YouTube video on the account of RedGamingTech emerged to blow the lid off the new Intel Battlemage GPUs. In doing so, RedGamingTech released a myriad of specifications and performance metrics. So, without further delay, let’s get into the nitty-gritty.

Intel’s Battlemage is said to double the Xe core count seen on the top-dog Alchemist GPU, the Intel Arc A770, that’s 64 Xe cores to play with. The GPU remains on the same 256-bit memory bus, however, it triples the L2 cache memory to 48MB.

The new Battlemage GPU will be constructed on TSMC’s 4nm node and apparently capable of exceeding a 3GHz clock speed. We think that the 3GHz clock speed is particularly ambitious, but larger things have been achieved in recent times.

In addition to the reported specifications, the Battlemage GPU is expected to have enhanced ray tracing capabilities and Xe cores that can accomplish more work per clock, contributing to its overall performance. As a result, the Battlemage may perform at a level comparable to Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Ti or even potentially match the RTX 4080. However, it remains unclear whether these claims are accurate.

Here’s a full list of Battlemage’s specifications based on RedGamingTech’s leaks.

We have no idea if these claims are true, but the specifications will make for one impressive GPU if this is what Intel plans to bring to the table in 2024.

Are these Intel Battlemage Specs really plausible?

The realm of plausibility begins with the doubling of the Xe cores. Whilst a particularly aggressive GPU core doubling is uncommon, it is not impossible when coupled with the new TSMC 4nm architecture. Intel’s Alchemist GPUs were also fairly conservative on the amount of Xe cores they included, so a full doubling this time around is further supported.

The inclusion of more L2 cache also makes sense, as the industry puts more demand for larger levels of GPU cache, so it only makes sense that Intel complies. The 256-bit bus also makes sense, as trying to compete with the likes of the 3090 from Nvidia with a 384-bit bus seems pointless. The performance of the new Battlemage GPU is likely more akin to a 4070 – 4070 Ti.

The thing that sticks out to us, as well as PCgamer, is the claim that the GPU will be able to manage 3GHz clock speeds. These claims are pretty far-fetched, considering Nvidias best GPU currently, the RTX 4090, only manages 2.6GHz on the TSMC 4nm node. Likewise, AMD only manages 2.5GHz on its 7900 XTX on the 5nm node. But hey, if Intel has found a way to push 5GHz, then all power to them. They’re gonna need it.

Battlemage Intel GPU should target RTX 4070 Ti-level performance

Battlemage should have the RTX 4070 Ti in its sights for release, as expecting anything more than that seems like it’s too much to ask. But who knows? One thing we do know is that if Intel cannot reach the performance of the 4070 Ti, then it risks being left in the dust when Nvidia releases its (presumably) 50 series GPUs.

The Intel Battlemage GPU will have to double the performance of the Arc A770 to reach 4070 Ti-levels of performance, but that much is expected when you’re doubling the functional units of the Arc A770.

We can’t say for sure whether these rumors and specs hold true. As always, until Intel makes a formal announcement regarding Battlemage, all should be taken with a pinch of salt. Intel’s next-gen GPU rumors hint at impressive specs as always is just a rumor.
