As we rapidly approach the next instalment in the series, many fans are asking the question of ‘is Diablo 3 going to end?’. After all, it’s been with us for so long, and has incredible longevity through it’s near-30 seasons of content. That means some players are incredibly invested in Diablo 3 and might have been playing ever since its initial 2012 release (yes, it has been that long).
The current state of affairs is that Diablo 3 is still very much alive and kicking. Season 28 of the hack and slash behemoth began late last month (February 28 to be precise) and brought with it the usual flurry of game updates, journey and cosmetic rewards, a conquest, and more. So, as always, there’s plenty for players to get into and enjoy.

Diablo 3 end date prediction
However, given that the lifespan of the most recent Diablo 3 season (27) was six months, and Diablo 3 Season 26 was four months – and with Diablo 3 Season 25 lasting even longer – season 28 could mark the end of Diablo 3 given the Diablo 4 release date is June of this year. We can’t be sure of course, but with Diablo 4‘s open betas already proving popular and hotly anticipated, it could be a sign that a transition from one game to another is at least possible.
However, it’s not always the case that a new game in a series just takes over, overnight, from a previous game. And with Diablo 3 having such a massive fan and player base, it may be that Blizzard gives Diablo 3 a bit more time to run it’s course as players gradually move over to Diablo 4.
We’ll find out more as we hurtle toward Diablo 4’s release in June, no doubt, but our advice would be to soak up what you can of Diablo 3 in the meantime, as the end of season 28 could mark the end of Diablo 3. Maybe Blizzard will fashion a way to blend the two games, and transition players between them – but we just don’t know.
