Epic Games recently called for some more Fortnite downtime. The servers were taken down for maintenance and preparation for the v29.00 update. This new update will bring many new things to Chapter 5 – Season 2, which is why many players can’t wait for the downtime to end.
Once again, Epic has prepared a lot of new content. From cosmetic items to gameplay changes, players are in for a treat. Unfortunately, the video game is currently unplayable, and you will have to wait for the servers to be back before you can play. If you try to login, you won’t get past the game’s menu screen with an error message.
Once the downtime is complete, the v29.00 update will bring the Myths & Mortals season with plenty of new cosmetics and weapons. When will Fortnite servers be back?
Update: Further scheduled maintenance is taking place on April 9th, 2024 for the v29.20 update. This downtime started at 4AM ET; you can keep track of updates via the Epic Games Status.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to correctly estimate how long Fortnite will be down. Multiple factors impact server downtime, which is why only Epic Games knows when it will end. However, we can make a prediction based on the previous downtimes.
Most major updates require a Fortnite downtime of two to three hours. It’s very rare that downtime takes longer if everything goes according to plan. However, considering that the v29.00 update is a big one, servers will likely be down for at least an hour or two.
There is no official word from Epic on how long maintenance will take, but servers should be back by 7AM Eastern Time on March 8th. It’s just a matter of time before Fortnite services are working properly once again, but you’ll have to be patient and simply wait.
The new Fortnite update will first be released for PC. It will be available on other devices shortly after, including Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X. Android players will also receive a new update and all of the amazing new features, but they may need to wait a while longer for it. Patch sizes vary from platform to platform and are affected by additional content, such as high-quality textures and texture streaming.
How long is Fortnite down for?
Fortnite has been down since 4AM Eastern Time (8AM UTC). Epic Games will disable matchmaking shortly before the servers go down, allowing players to finish their matches but not start new ones. This is a regular procedure that takes place for every major update, so there is no need to worry.
While you are waiting for the Fortnite downtime to end, make sure to update your client. This will ensure that you have the latest patch and that you can play the video game once the servers come back.

What to expect in the new Fortnite update
With each update comes plenty of new content. In the new Fortnite v29.00 update, you can expect the release of the Myths & Mortals update, which follows a storyline of the Greek Underworld versus Olympus. Along with this update, it will bring new cosmetic items and weapons – including four new mythic weapons.
Players should also note that the v29.00 update will file size may be larger than usual on certain platforms. So, to prep for the upcoming update, ensure you have enough storage space on your preferred gaming platform.
