It looks like the game designers over at Minecraft developer Mojang have been so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should, and are releasing a new Jurassic World themed DLC pack for their blocky crafting game. The Jurassic World DLC is available today from the Minecraft Store. It’s available today for 1340 Minecoins, which converts to just under $8. Here’s a trailer showing some of what you can expect:

And here’s the official description of the DLC:

“The Park is open! Manage the dinosaur resort of your dreams – in Minecraft! Craft and train dinosaurs, build awesome exhibits, and go on exciting expeditions. How long can you keep the Park running smoothly?”

There’s some evidence of a lot of care going into producing this DLC, where clearly they’ve paid close attention to the detail from the various Jurassic movies. You can see the Hammond Creation Lab from Jurassic World authentically created in blocky form, plus a wide selection of dinosaurs, characters, and locations reproduced with the Minecraft aesthetic. We even spotted a Minecraft Jeff Goldblum!

This type of content being released for Minecraft, as we approach nearly a decade since the version 1.0 release, somewhat cements it as the LEGO for players of a particular generation. Similarly, LEGO started out as an open-ended freeform creation toy, but eventually started using existing brands and properties to sustain ongoing interest. This is not the first crossover with another brand that Minecraft has had, but it does perhaps suggest that this type of content is the future for Minecraft, or at least a big part of its future.

I’m curious about the timing here, too. Was perhaps this DLC pack originally intended to release alongside the third movie in the rebooted film series? Perhaps at one point, this was intended to be part of the promotional campaign for Jurassic World: Dominion, but since production and release on that film has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, they decided to release the Minecraft DLC on its own?

Either way, this looks like a fun extra for Minecraft, especially for any players looking to bridge the gap between anyone over 30 who remembers the release of the original Jurassic Park, and kids who are interested or at least curious about Dinosaurs. Let us know if you’ll be picking it up.
