What to look for when shopping for Labor Day laptop deals
If you’re after an office/back to school laptop deal, you should prioritize the following:
- the quality of the keyboard & trackpad
- portability (weight and size)
- battery life
- a minimum of 16GB RAM if you open a lot of tabs in your web browser
- make sure a webcam is included (assuming you’re not using a separate one)
- the display gets bright enough to use in your chosen environment
- the power of the CPU, GPU, and display refresh rate are not very important
If you’re after a laptop for creative work:
- if you’re doing color work, you’ll want a display with high color gamut and color accuracy
- if you’re editing high-resolution images/video you may want a higher resolution display (perhaps a 4K laptop)
- if you’re going to be doing a lot of rendering or other CPU-intensive tasks then you’ll want a processor with strong multi-core performance
- some software will also require a good GPU (have a Google of the software you’ll be using!)
- display refresh rate is not very important
If you’re after a gaming laptop deal:
- the maximum refresh rate of the display should be 100Hz minimum (particularly when playing shooters)
- you’ll want the most powerful GPU & CPU you can afford
- a minimum of 16GB RAM is recommended
- if you’re going to be using headphones then speaker quality may be less important
Labor Day laptop deals FAQ
What month is the best month to buy a laptop?
If you can wait, between Black Friday (which this year falls on November 25th) and Cyber Monday (November 28th) is usually when the best deals on laptops appear, though early Black Friday laptop deals appear throughout November.
That being said, Amazon Prime Day sales (July 12th -13th) and US Labor Day sales (the week before September 5th) are also great times to pick up laptop deals earlier in the year, and you can usually also find some good offers in the January sales.
Is Labor Day a good day to buy a laptop computer?
Labor Day sales have some laptop deals that are as good as at any other time of year. Although the number of offers isn’t as great as over the Black Friday – Cyber Monday period, if you see a laptop you like reduced by 25-50% over Labor Day, there’s a good chance you won’t get a much better deal even if you wait until November. Our general advice would be to snap it up.
