An expanded edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary, which brings helicopters, gliders, and a batch of other new aircraft to the game, arrives November 2022 as announced today during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase today. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Xbox Cloud, and Xbox consoles.

Alongside the Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition announcement, Xbox revealed an exclusive Halo Infinite Pelican is available from today in Microsoft Flight Simulator. It’s available via the in-sim marketplace for all owners of the game along with Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Elsewhere, the team has partnered with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum for a unique collaboration to bring the iconic Spirit of St. Louis plane to the game. Details to come to light in the coming months.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition Overview

The 40th Anniversary addition will be 100% free for all owners of the game, and stands as a comprehensive celebration of MFS now and the past. It’s both a tribute and look to the forward. In that spirit, it includes classic airports and airplanes pulled from older versions of Microsoft Flight Sim and more recent craft such as a true-to-life A310. Helicopters also form a big part of this expanded version bolstered by an all-new Fluid Dynamics Simulation.

Here’s a taste of the new aircraft bundled into the 40th Anniversary Edition:

Historical Aircraft:

  • Wright Flyer
  • Ryan NYP (“Spirit of St. Louis”)
  • Douglas DC-3
  • De Havilland Canada DHC-2-Beaver

Helicopters:

  • Bell-407
  • Guimbal Cabri G2

Gliders:

  • DG Flugzeugbau LG8-18
