Microsoft Flight Simulator has not been out long, but it’s already proven to be a smash hit, and building a strong player-base out of the gate is a great way to establish a strong and passionate community around a game. With a game like Flight Simulator, design with robust mod support, it’s no surprise to see that community work on creative additions to the game, that reflect some aspect of their personality.

Here, we see one person that has married their love of being a virtual pilot, with their love for 70s Heavy Metal pioneers, Iron Maiden. Here we see they’ve gone to the effort of skinning a Boeing 747 with a visual overhaul to celebrate the Iron Maiden Book of Souls World Tour from 2016, modeled directly after the very real Boeing 747 the band used to travel between destinations like Mexico City, San José, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, Tokyo, Sydney, Berlin, Paris, Manchester, and many many more.

I think they’ve done a pretty decent job of capturing its likeness:

Players can install this mod simply and easily, and you could perhaps even listen to some Iron Maiden midflight to get yourself really in the mood.

Once you’ve downloaded the mod, you can follow these installation instructions.

  • Paste “Boeing 747_8i” file into;
  • For Microsoft Store; %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_xxx……\LocalCache\Packages\Community
  • For Steam; C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Microsoft Flight Simulator create “Community” folder.

This also includes a Turkish Airlines skin for the 747. There’s a wide variety of plane skins already available for Flight Simulator, it’s worth keeping an eye on Nexus Mods if you want to see some interesting new skins as they become available.

This isn’t the first time Iron Maiden has crossed over into videogames. In Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, the band’s mascot Eddie the Head was a secret unlockable character.

More recently they produced and official licensed mobile game, too.
